Leyton Orient beat Plymouth Argyle 6-5 on penalties in the Capital One Cup after the first-round tie ended 3-3 after extra-time.
Plymouth striker Reuben Reid scored twice to send the tie into extra time against League One side Orient, who had led 2-0.
Reid beat O's skipper Nathan Clarke and then goalkeeper Gary Woods to make it 2-2 in the 65th minute.
Argyle striker Reid - last season's top scorer - had made it 2-1 in first-half stoppage-time from 12 yards after Woods had saved his first attempt.
Orient's 11th-minute substitute Dean Cox celebrated his 27th birthday in style, scoring with his first touch, a rising drive into the top corner from outside the box in the 13th minute.
Cox teed-up the O's second goal in the 38th minute, sending over an inviting cross from the right-hand touchline and in-coming Mathieu Baudry stooped to score with a powerful header from six yards.
Cox then capped a man-of-the-match performance by crossing for fellow substitute Romain Vincelot to head Orient's 104th-minute third goal, which was cancelled out by Carl McHugh when he pounced on to a deflection to level in the 108th minute.
