Stunning result. Chelsea were leading 2-0 with only four minutes of regular time remaining, but two goals in the closing stages have secured the unlikeliest of draws. Full time, it's Reading 2 Chelsea 2. A draw out of nothing for the Royals.
The full-time whistle goes and Reading have come from 2-0 down to stun Chelsea and secure a remarkable 2-2 draw.
From the free-kick Reading launched the ball in the penalty area. Kebe flicks on the ball. Akpan nods on the ball for Le Fondre, who guides the ball home. Stunning stuff.
Reading finishing with a flourish, but Turnbull comes out and collects the ball. He's in no rush to re-start the game either.
Neat through-ball from sub Akpan and he finds who else by Le Fondre, who tucks home a left-footed finish. Can Reading perform another late miracle?
Chance. Benayoun finds Oscar, but his first-time effort is blocked by Federici, who came out of his goal quickly to snuff out the danger.
12 minutes to go and Reading have just had their first attempt at goal. Le Fondre headed an effort well wide. Disappointing night from the Royals so far.
Third and final change for Reading. Karacan has gone off and he's replaced by Akpan, who was signed from Crawley Town.
It's all Chelsea. They could easily go and score four or five now in this one. Reading have not been in this one.
Oscar picks out Torres, but the Spanish striker is offside. I didn't it was first time and didn't think it was on the replay. His shot hit Federici anyway.
Mata finds Lampard, but this time his effort from outside the penalty area rolls wide. Decent chance for a third.
Mata's corner is headed home at the near post by Lampard. Pogrebnyak was on the line trying to keep it out, but it was too well-placed into the top corner.
Chance for a second. Lampard finds Oscar. He opts to try and find Torres, but this time Harte is on hand to clear the danger.
Could end up being a good result for the Blues tonight if the scores stay as they are in the other games. This should have been a year of celebration for Chelsea being champions of Europe. We do love a negative headline... 3-0 to Chelsea tonight. Dave
That should have been a second for Chelsea. Lampard's floated ball picks out Oscar. He had time and space, but went for the first-time volley and fires his effort wide. Torres was wanting the ball in the middle.
Torres just haven't worked out, simple as that so let's cut the loss and move on. He'll probably score in a minute now......... Jørn/Aarhus
Bit selfish there from Bertrand. He opted against picking out team-mate Azpilicueta. His shot was then blocked.
Lampard's free-kick can only find the wall. Bit disappointing really. You expected him to at least test Federici.
Pearce brings down Torres. Free-kick for Chelsea in a dangerous-looking position from outside the penalty area.
If reading are gonna get back into this game they need to bring on Adam Le Fondre! The super sub has got us out of danger before, and we could yet salvage a point. Matt, Norfolk
I am a Chelsea fan but agree with the lads, Torres needs to come off and make room for Ba, he is far better and the results from him compared to Torres say it all !! Dev from Kent
no one can fault torres' work ethic ...chelsea fans & British media are extreme in their criticism of him....ANOTHER lovely assist for the Juan & only Mata...Susie , Ireland
First shot on target and we score. Can't believe Ba is not on. Even 3 points today won't be enough for blues fans to stop wanting Rafa out. Every day is one closer to he goes and, hopefully, the Special One goes. Guy, West Sussex
there is not a good selection on the chelsea bench tonight apart from terry and ba and who would you take off to play torres and ba up front. i can see ba replacing torres on the hour, unless torres starts hitting the target, basil true blue bowelman
we can always count on mata. I just dont think RA is behind the torres selection anymore. No one can honelstly say after watching his performances at swansea at home and Brentford away he should be picked over ba. chelsea 2-1 second being ba off the bench. Fred
So Chelsea lead at the break courtesy of Mata's strike. What do Blues fans think of their display so far? What do Reading fans think of their lack of anything up front. Send in your answers to email@example.com.
The half-time whistle goes. Mata's goal on the stroke of half-time has given the visitors. That's been the only shot on target in the game.
Torres with a lovely through-ball for Mata who finishes with a first-time left-footed shot past Federici.
To be honest, the best us chelsea fans will get tonight is a draw don't see us getting anything from this one! Janet
Cole has time and space for a shot outside the penalty area, but once again Federici remains untested.
Oscar is nearly through. The ball falls for Torres, but he can only muster a woeful effort. Surely Ba will be introduced in the second half if this stays goalless for much longer.
Benitez needs to get his head straight, Ba should not be on the bench and neither should JT. But I think it'll be 3-1 to Chelsea. Rob
Free-kick for Reading gives a bit of respite for the home team. In fact it's a booking for Ramires, who led with the elbow on Pogrebnyak.
Good evening James and just a quick reply to those moaning about the Torres selection: I don't think RB gets a choice in this one, RA wants him to play and it's his club after all. I think it is that simple. regards, Jamie B
Bertrand's shot is well off target. The poor effort draws whistles from the home support. Turnbull has had nothing to do in the visitors' goal.
As a chelsea fan, I feel we really need a win today and despite having no Petr Cech, I will go for a 2-1 win for us with Torres and Oscar scoring our goals and pogrebnyak for Reading. Ben
That should have been a corner to Reading, but the officials did not see it. The home fans are far from happy.
Being a chelsea fan can't believe Rafa is keeping faith In Torres Demba Ba has should more threat up front them Torres in his first few games RAFA OUT!!! Ollie from Chesterfield
Wow! Free header for Cahill from Lampard's free-kick, but he is unable to hit the target. A real chance and the only one of the game so far. Could easily have been 1-0 to Chelsea, but it remains goalless.
Gonna be the first to say it but as a Reading fan I'm predicting 1-0 to Reading with a Harte special free-kick. Wayne
I have been a Chelsea fan for more than 50 years. Apart for that clown Ranielli, Benitez has to be the greatest cretinous manager in Chelsea History. Why isn't Demba Ba on the field? Stuart
Reading scamble it behind for a corner. Chelsea broke after Ramires pinched the ball from Leigertwood.
Opinions about Rafa have been voiced enough now !!! Get behind the team, they need us more than ever (apart from the 80's). It's the shirt that matters now. Come on Chels............. Med venlig hilsen
hi, this is Haroon from London, Edgware, Iam expecting a big win for the blues, i predict it to be 3-1 chelsea, with Demba Ba, Mata and Oscar to bag the goals, its an importnant game for us and it should be a straight forward win. A win will keep us 4 pts away from man.city!! Haroon
Federici comes, jumps and collects the ball in the air with Torres challenging from a long Chelsea punt up the field.
with the exception of bertrand and turnball, this is a full strength chelsea side who mean business tonight. i would prefer to see ba and torres up front but maybe that will materialise as the game progresses. i am looking for a comfortable chelsea win tonight to close the gap at the top of the table, so i am going for 2-0 chelsea tonihjt, rick shirran, luton
Ashley Cole's shot is well over the bar. Nice build-up play by the visitors. Mata's square ball picked out Cole, but he was unable to test Federici.
Reading are now starting to come into the game. The Royals are pressing the Blues and cutting down their time in possession.
this is Aron Lipczer from Edgware, coming from a chelsea fan's point of view i am sure Rafa will be sure to disappoint, but we have to have some belief in the nutter, so i predict a 3-0 chelsea win, with Demba Ba scoring his first and certainly not last hat-trick for the club. COME ON CHELSEA!! RAFA OUT!!
Rafa is so obsessed with Torres. Yes, he is a good player going through a spell. But for God's sake Ba is in form, why leave him on the bench? What is JT doing on the bench? Chelsea's recent selections lack credibility. It will be another draw, at best. Usman
Hi, very excited! I can't believe Ba is on the bench again either! My prediction is 3-1 to Chelsea. I reckon the Blues will do well today!!! From Toby
This is where Chelsea start their run to the premier league title, my guess for tonight is 3-0 to Chelsea. Liam
I can't believe that Ba is on the bench again! That's why I bet on another disapointing 2-2 draw with Reading scoring first then Lamps and Ba getting on the score sheet for Chelsea but Reading getting an equaliser in the last minutes of the match. But I really hope I'm wrong! Vladimir
Can't believe 'Benitez's' team selection - surely Ba deserves a run in place of the thin Spanish flop and why isn't Terry in there to shore up our defence - unbelievable! David Clark
Proves Benitez hasnt got a clue.....Torres starting over Ba. The mans a joke!!....KTBFFH. Christian from Kent.
Ben Rees: Oh dear. Turnbull in goal and Torres starting up front. Unfortunately I can see Reading snatching a point this evening!
Reading: Federici, Kelly, Pearce, Mariappa, Harte, Kebe, Karacan, Leigertwood, Guthrie, McAnuff, Pogrebnyak. Subs: Stuart Taylor, Shorey, Le Fondre, McCleary, Morrison, Robson-Kanu, Akpan.
Chelsea: Turnbull, Azpilicueta, Ivanovic, Cahill, Cole, Mata, Ramires, Lampard, Oscar, Bertrand, Torres. Subs: Hilario, Ferreira, Marin, Terry, Ba, Benayoun, Ake.
I'm James Pearson and I'll be talking you through tonight's match from Reading. If you have any pre-match predictions or thoughts on the line-ups, feel free to e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org
It looks like both teams are going for 4-2-3-1 formations. Can the Royals keep up their impressive form or will the Blues claim all three points away from home?
Fernando Torres lines up ahead of Demba Ba in attack as Chelsea look to bounce back from their FA Cup draw at Brentford with victory at Reading.
Ross Turnbull retains his place in goal after Petr Cech failed to recover from a calf injury, but John Terry drops to the bench, with Branislav Ivanovic partnering Gary Cahill at centre-back.
