Nicolas De Preville scored the only goal as Reims moved up to sixth in the Ligue 1 table following a 1-0 win over Bordeaux who are their rivals for European qualification.
Defeat leaves Bordaux five points and three places behind Reims who trail fifth-placed Marseille on goal difference.
Bordeaux dominated the early exchanges but Reims came more into the game in the second half and were rewarded with De Preville's goal.
With 11 minutes on the clock Julien Faubert found Guillaume Hoarau but his curling shot just missed the top corner of the goal with Johnny Placide beaten.
Placide was in the right place just before the half hour when he punched away an inswinging corner from Gergory Sertic just as the ball was about to cross the line.
Reims' first chance was created by Anthony Weber but when he passed to Mads Albaek his shot was saved by Bordeaux goalkeeper Cedric Carrasso.
Sertic and Hoarau then combined to free Landry N'Guemo but his low drive was saved by Placide.
Six minutes before half-time Bordeaux suffered a blow as Carrasso was injured when he kicked the ball and had to be replaced by Kevin Olimpa.
Ten minutes into the second half De Preville crossed from the left to Odair Fortes but his shot from inside the penalty area was put out for a corner by defender Ludovic Sane.
Reims started to come more into the game and went close just after the hour when Eliran Atar set up Albaek for a shot from 25 yards which Olimpa deflected away.
But the Bordeaux keeper could not keep out a shot from De Preville after he was fed by Albaek.
Bordeaux nearly levelled the scores shortly after when N'Guemo found Henri Saivet but his shot came back off the post.
Sertic passed to N'Guemo whose superb right-foot volley was kept out by Placide who ensured his side picked up three valuable points.
