Neil Lennon's side now face an uphill battle when these two teams face each other again in eight days time. They certainly had the chances to score tonight, but defensively, they looked vulnerable and Lennon will be hoping that a Celtic Park crowd can spur them on to turn this tie around.

The fourth official indicates three extra minutes to be played. There's still time for Celtic to pull one back.

Free-kick in a shooting position after Commons is brought down on the turn. This could be a big moment for Celtic's Champions League hopes.
Amido Balde replaces Emilio Izaguirre for Celtic. Attacker for defender - Lennon is clearly desperate for that away goal.
Mulgrew's free-kick is punched away by Mokin. I'm not sure if the ball is slippery tonight but both goal keepers seem reluctant to try catching it from crosses.
Sky Bet make Celtic a massive 22/1 to claw this game back to 2-2, though they're only 7/2 to come away with a 2-1 defeat. Bet in-play now with Sky Bet!
Celtic face a big uphill task now and an away goal could prove vital. In terms of striking options, Neil Lennon still has Anthony Stokes and Amido Balde at his disposal on the bench.

Mulgrew's free-kick is easily dealt with and put out for a throw-in on the right which Matthews attempts to launch in the area, but it is headed away.
Steven Mouyokolo was completely bullied in the lead up to that chance, it's not been the best of nights for the former Hull City man.
Forster is called into action at the other end but Khizhnickenko's effort doesn't cause him too many problems.
Commons did well to intercept the free-kick, he finds Izaguirre storming forward but the full-back is unable to take advantage as he finds himself outnumbered.

Not the greatest half for Celtic who have really struggled to deal with Shakhtyor's threat from long throws. They have had glimmers of hope with Commons and Samaras both coming close but I imagine that Neil Lennon will be giving them a bit of a dressing down at half-time.
That's it for the first-half in Kazakhstan. Shakhtyor Karaganda lead Celtic 1-0 thanks to Andrei Finonchenko's early strike.

Forrest is hacked down and Celtic are awarded a free-kick in a crossing position from deep. Brown, Commons and Mulgrew stand over it.
Sergei Khizhnichenko falls over the ball and concedes a throw-in. Maybe that's why he's wearing shirt number 91...

An ambitious effort from Vicius is on target but it's simple for Forster to deal with as he collects the ball.

Great effort from Kris Commons whose strike rattles against the bar with Mokin routed to the spot. The ball bounces clear but replays are inconclusive as to whether it went over the line.
A strike from distance goes well wide of Forster's goal as Neil Lennon looks understandably concerned on the Celtic bench.
Shakhtyor are buoyed by that goal and they immediately try to go on the attack but it comes to nothing.
There was some suspect defending from Celtic in the build up to that goal, but the hosts have already shown how dangerous their long throws can be.
