Second-bottom Sochaux picked up only their sixth win of the season on Saturday evening with a 2-0 victory over Lorient at Stade Auguste Bonal.
Herve Renard's side took an early lead through Roy Contout and Stopilla Sunzu sealed matters with a second goal 10 minutes from time.
The result - Lorient's fourth defeat in their last six league matches - saw Christian Gourcuff's men drop to 12th in the table following Nice's 2-0 triumph over Bastia.
The home side went close to opening the scoring after six minutes when Sebastien Corchia found Sanjin Prcic, whose curling ball was pushed away by goalkeeper Fabien Audard for a corner.
However, just a minute later Sochaux took the lead.
Corchia's corner was only cleared as far as Contout, who closed in on goal and despatched powerful close-range shot past Audard.
The home side press for a second goal and, midway through the first half, Contout almost turned provider when he crossed for Corchia at the far post, but his close-range volley was well held by Audard.
Ten minutes before the break, Sochaux striker Cedric Bakambu set up Nathan Sinkala, but Audard was again positioned well to block his effort.
Lorient came out stronger in the second half and five minutes in, Kevin Monnet-Paquet found Jeremie Aliadiere on the left. The former Middlesbrough man raced toward the goal for their first real effort of the game, but his shot was held by home goalkeeper Yohann Pele.
As the game approached the hour mark, Audard put in another good save for the visitors, this time keeping out Edouard Butin's close-range volley.
He was powerless to prevent the hosts doubling their lead after 79 minutes, though. Corchia's free-kick came back to the right-back, who quickly crossed to the far post where Sunzu made no mistake with his header.
