Thanks for joining us tonight and stay tuned for a full match report and all the best post-game reaction.
Manchester United will be happy enough with a point on their travels, but they missed a number of opportunities to take all three, with Hernandez and Van Persie particularly culpable.
Another clumsy and silly challenge from Fellaini as he clips the heels of Zurutuza, earning a second yellow and an early bath.
Every time United gain possession, Sociedad make sure they have two banks of four back behind the ball to snuff out any threat.
David Moyes is on his feet in the technical area giving Young a piece of his mind after some sloppy play.
Valencia drills in a cross-shot towards the lurking Van Persie but Carlos Martinez is perfectly placed to clear.
Sociedad have a corner, with De Gea's six-yard box very crowded. The chance goes begging though, as the kick loops out of play before coming back on.
Sociedad come close to hitting United on the break, as Vela's attempted pass is only met by Vidic's head, with De Gea needing two bites of the cherry to gather.
Sociedad go close!!! United are sleeping at a quick corner and Xabi Prieto's shot on the turn is chested just past the top corner of De Gea's goal by Vela.
If United fail to win tonight, or even lose, then they will only have themselves to blame. Hernandez's miss was a shocker, while Van Persie would have expected to score from the spot.
The penalty was awarded after Ashley Young tumbled to the ground as he went past Markel Bergara. It looked very soft, but referee Rizzoli immediately pointed to the spot.
Van Persie is in the action again, but his cut-back from the right of the box goes behind his team-mates in the area and Sociedad can breathe again.
OFF THE POST!!!! United's substitutes almost make an immediate impact as Kagawa - who has now moved infield - finds Young, whose low cross goes all the way across the box to Van Persie, who smashes his shot against the post from a tight angle.
Double change from Manchester United, with Rooney and Hernandez making way and Van Persie and Ashley Young coming on.
Giggs tries to find Hernandez, but the pass is way too long. Van Persie is primed to join the action.
Fellaini releases Rooney and he bursts into the Sociedad half. Hernandez's run takes defenders away and the England man continues, before attempting to find his strike partner, only to overhit the pass.
Smalling slides in hard on Pardo and gets away with a talking to from Rizzoli, when the home players were expecting a yellow card.
Rooney takes, but Sociedad clear with the minimum of fuss. United's set-pieces, along with a few other aspects of their play, have been poor tonight.
Fellaini heads away well from a Sociedad corner before Kagawa is upended on the edge of the United box to ease the pressure.
Kagawa tumbles to the ground with Gonzalez in attendance, but referee Rizzoli is not interested in the slightest.
I'm still in shock over that miss from Hernandez. It was a gold-plated sitter and the kind of chance any player at this level would expect to convert with ease.
Griezmann attempts an audacious flick from Pardo's free-kick but the ball drifts harmlessly wide of De Gea's goal.
WHAT A MISS FROM HERNANDEZ!!! Kagawa puts the ball on a plate for the striker, who is six yards out in front of a gaping goal, but somehow manages to side-foot over the bar.
Rooney looks to burst away from Carlos Martinez but the defender is too quick for the United man. Fellaini then gives away a free-kick for another robust challenge on Griezmann.
Evra is in action again to head away a cross from Zurutuza. The home side have started the second half with real purpose.
Early attacking intent from Sociedad and Ruben Pardo fires in a shot from outside the box which flies wide of De Gea's post.
Quick reminder of Manchester United's overall record away to La Liga clubs before the second half starts - W2 D9 L10.
The other match in Group A tonight between Shakhtar Donetsk and Bayer Leverkusen is also locked at 0-0.
Michael Bell gets his email in at HT to write: "Can see Sociedad going on to win now, United look weak all over. Fellaini may get sent off, always gets (annoyingly) booked - a foul merchant!"
United have been pretty comfortable throughout this half, but are yet to really test Bravo. Sociedad have offered little in attack, with De Gea similarly underemployed.
Just wide from De la Bella! The full-back cuts inside and curls a shot narrowly wide of De Gea's goal, although the keeper looked to have it covered.
Excellent challenge from Vidic to stop Vela in his tracks just as he looked to have got in behind the United defence from the right flank.
Giggs attempts a clipped pass over the top towards Hernandez, and while he clears Carlos Martinez the pass is too long for the Mexico striker.
De la Bella is forward again, but this time is too long for everyone in the box. De Gea then gets his angles wrong as he can only fist another Vela cross out for a corner.
Inigo Martinez attempts to thread a pass through to De la Bella, but the overlapping full-back does not have the pace to get to the ball.
De Gea is called into action to gather another cross as Carlos Martinez finds space on the right but puts the ball far too close to the United goalkeeper.
United continue to press and Kagawa fires in a low cross towards Hernandez but Inigo Martinez is alert to the danger and clears for a corner, which comes to nothing.
Valencia breaks for United and then feeds Smalling on the overlap. United have men in the box, but the cross is poor and Sociedad clear again.
Rooney's kicks is towards Vidic, but he is bumped off the ball by De la Bella, who seemed much more interested in playing the man rather than the ball.
Decent spell of possession for United, but they're still to create a chance that has really tested Bravo in the Sociedad goal. They have won another corner, though.
Smalling does well to skip away from the right, before misplacing a simple pass and gifting the ball back to Sociedad.
Smalling, Giggs and Rooney combine as United look for an opening before the defender eventually flights over a cross which is too long for Kagawa.
Evra goes airborne to head away a hopeful ball forward from Gonzalez and lands heavily, but is thankfully immediately back onto his feet.
Decent chance for Sociedad but Agirretxe is unable to test De Gea as he skews his shot off target from around 15 yards out after Zurutuza's pull-back from the right.
Rooney catches Inigo Martinez and concedes a free-kick, but it is the Sociedad man's reaction which earns a ticking off from referee Rizzoli.
Giggs attempts a long pass over the top towards Wayne Rooney, but there is too much on the pass and Bravo can gather.
The corner comes to nothing and United clear their lines, but Sociedad are swiftly back in possession before Vidic holds off Griezmann to earn a goal-kick.
Valencia attempts to find Smalling as he gallops down the right, but de la Bella covers well. Sociedad then go on the attack and Evra is forced to concede a corner after Vela finds Agirretxe.
Fellaini feeds Hernandez, who lifts a ball in towards Rooney, but the England forward fails to bring the ball under control.
Kagawa tries his luck from outside the box as Evra's run outside opens up some space, but his shot is straight at Bravo who gathers at the second attempt.
Good work from Smalling as he snuffs out the threat of former Arsenal man Carlos Vela down the left.
Evra and Kagawa look to combine down the left, but the full-back's pass is too strong and the ball goes out for a throw.
Carlos Martinez fires in a low cross towards the near post but it is ahead of Agirretxe and De Gea gathers.
Sociedad are hassling United when they have possession, forcing the visitors further and further back, before the ball goes back to De Gea and he is forced to clear downfield.
Sociedad's move breaks down and United look to go back on the attack before they, too, concede possession.
Lovely control from Griezmann out on the left as he brings Pardo's cross-field ball under control when it looked destined to go out.
Sociedad completely waste a chance to put some pressure on United as Pardo's free-kick into the box from out on the right is just catching practice for De Gea.
Narrowly wide from United as Kagawa, Evra and Rooney combine before the Japan international drives his shot across the goal via a deflection.
Hernandez plays the ball in to Giggs, whose first-time pass towards Evra is too strong and just bounces out beyond the full-back.
Valencia digs out another cross from the right but there is little danger and Markel Bergara clears.
Long clearance from Bravo goes all the way through to De Gea. The United keeper gathers comfortably, so no chance of a 'Begovic' here.
Good play from Fellaini to find Kagawa on the left as United go on the attack. Play switches to the right and Valencia cuts in before attempting to feed Rooney, only for the move to break down.
Giggs flights in a free-kick which Markel Bergara can only head up and back towards his own keeper, with Bravo off his line to gather under pressure from Smalling.
Carlos Martinez tests the United defence with a long throw, but Vidic heads away and then Valencia carries the ball into Sociedad's half.
Fellaini and Giggs are lining up in the centre of United's midfield, with Kagawa out on the left and Valencia on the right.
Early touch for De Gea and he clears down field in the direction of Hernandez, but Inigo Martinez gets across to clear.
The rain seems to have abated in time for kick-off, but there is still a fair breeze in the stadium - conditions which are perhaps more typical of Manchester than Spain.

And Wahid from Halifax reckons: "Looks a tough game, not expecting much from United. Should be playing Kagawa in middle and Valencia and Nani on wings. Fellaini and Giggs look worrying for me and so does Smalling. Hope we nick a win."

Shikhar Shukla writes: "Nice to see Hernandez get a game. Giggs and Fellaini in midfield is worrying, but I'd rather Giggs than Anderson. Smalling at right back has been ineffective."
Real Sociedad team: Bravo, Carlos Martinez, Gonzalez, Inigo Martinez, de la Bella, Pardo, Markel Bergara, Zurutuza, Vela, Agirretxe, Griezmann.

United go into tonight's clash in excellent form, having won four matches on the bounce to quell talk of a crisis around Old Trafford as the Red Devils adjust to life after Sir Alex Ferguson.
Three straight defeats have left the Spanish side in deep trouble and even a draw may not be enough to prevent them from being ruled out of contention if Bayer Leverkusen defeat Shakhtar Donetsk in tonight's other Group A clash.
However, David Moyes' men know that three points this evening will eliminate Real Sociedad from the qualification reckoning with two games to spare.
Manchester United will hit the 10-point mark after just four games with victory tonight, although that will not be enough to guarantee progress to the knockout phase just yet.
