FULL-TIME: Southampton secure their first Premier League win of the season at the fifth time of asking thanks to a spellbinding second half performance. Villa had led through Darren Bent's close-range finish. But the Saints hit back through Rickie Lambert's excellent effort from the edge of the box before Nathaniel Clyne bagged his first goal for the club with a cool finish. It was soon three as Jason Puncheon's strike deflected off Ciaran Clark for an own goal and Lambert sealed a comprehensive win from the penalty spot deep in stoppage time.
Lambert scores his second of the afternoon as he lashes his right-foot shot into the bottom corner from 12-yards. No chance for Guzan!
Second later, Rickie Lambert has a go from the halfway line, but the ball flies well over. Time is up for Villa!
Gaston Ramirez decides to have a pop at goal from an acute angle and he very nearly hits the corner flag.
Villa win a corner and it comes to nothing as Karim El Ahmadi runs the ball out with a poor touch for a goalkick.
Rickie Lambert looks up and finds Mayuka, who is just caught in an offside position, although his effort is parried wide in any case.
Cheers of 'Ole' ring around St Mary's as they pass the ball with real confidence, but then big Ron Vlaar steps in to put an end to the singing.
The home side are controlling the middle of the park and Villa are struggling to win the ball back at the moment.
At the other end Ashley Westwood looks to curl the ball into the top corner, but fails to get any meat on his effort.
CHANCE! And Ramirez is involved again with a sublime through ball for Adam Lallana, but he panics in front of goal and Guzan collects.
Gaston Ramirez has looked different quality this haf and has behind much of the fine attacking play for the hosts.
Christian Benteke wins a free-kick on the edge of the Saints box and in a central position. A real opportunity for Villa this!
Just to confirm that effort from Jason Puncheon has now been awarded as an own goal for Ciaran Clark, although I'm sure the defender wouldn't want to claim it.
A superb second half showing from Saints this and surely they're on course to record their first Premier League victory of the season!
SUBSTITUTION: The goalscorer Jason Puncheon is immediately replaced as Emmanuel Mayuka comes onto the field.
Awful defending from Villa who are guilty of ball watching. Lambert finds Puncheon and he has time to switch the ball onto his right-foot before firing his effort off Ciaran Clark and into the back of the net.
Villa win a corner now as Vlaar and Clark come forward. The ball in finds Benteke, but his header is not powerful enough and Saints clear.
CHANCE! Jason Puncheon skips inside two Villa defenders before bending his left-foot shot wide of the far post.
SUBSTITUTIONS: Joe Bennett and Gabby Agbonlahor replace Eric Lichaj and Barry Bannan for the visitors.
Villa are preparing to make a double change because Southampton look like the team heading towards their first Premier League victory.
What a turnaround for Southampton! Clyne finds Lambert, who in turn picks out Gaston Ramirez on the edge of the box and his defence splitting pass finds the full-back clean through and he keeps his cool to slot the ball past Brad Guzan.
Matthew Lowton clears the ball out for a throw, but the home fans believe their side can end their disastrous start to the season this afternoon and we have 30 minutes remaining.
What was I saying? Lambert does well to control the right-wing cross before finding space and time to lash his right-foot shot from the edge of the area past Brad Guzan. That's his third of the season and his 14th goal in 18 games. We're level at St Mary's!
I disagree Henry. I think Southamton have started the better, but Villa have looked the more dangerous in front of goal.
Henry Tweets: "I think villa will win 3-0, start the second half strong! Hopefully score again soon! UTV."
Nathaniel Clyne makes another surging run forward, but Villa are happy to defend their 18-yard box and clear their lines.
From the resulting free-kick, Rickie Lambert goes over the challenge of Clark, and once again, referee Moss is involved although he waves away appeals.
YELLOW CARD: Eric Lichaj catches Morgan Schneiderlin and referee Jon Moss has no option but to book him.
Lovely run by Nathan Clyne, who is stopped on the edge of the box by a crunching tackle by centre-back Ciaran Clark.
SO CLOSE! Christian Benteke isn't picked up at the far post and he has a free header at goal, but the ball drifts inches wide of the far post. So unlucky from the Belgium international!
Ciaran Clark comes close from the corner with a free header which is deflected over the crossbar for a second corner is succession.
CHANCE VILLA! Christian Benteke plays a delightful ball into the box, but Darren Bent's effort is parried by Paulo Gazzaniga.
Jason Puncheon immediately has a pop at goal from an acute angle, but Guzan is quickly down to keep the ball out.
SUBSTITUTIONS: Changes at the break from both sides. Ashley Westwood replaces Stephen Ireland for Villa while Frazer Richardson comes on for Daniel Fox in the full-back position for Saints.

Southampton are 5/1 to claim victory with @SKYBET now, who make Aston Villa 4/7 and the draw 9/4. My pre-match prediction of 1-2, to Aston Villa which was 9/1, is now 5/1. Head now to www.skybet.com to place your bets.
HALF-TIME: Southampton are on course for a fifth consecutive Premier League defeat while Villa are on course for back-to-back away wins for the first time since May 2011. The only goal of the game came ten minutes before the break thanks to Darren Bent's close-range toe poke for his first league goal of the season.
Karim El Ahmadi's right-foot cross is met by Ireland, who takes the ball off Bent, who seemed to be in a better position.
YELLOW CARD: Ron Vlaar is wrongly booked by referee Jon Moss for seemingly bringing down Rickie Lambert, but the player actually tripped over his own feet.
I guess that's the difference between average strikers and top quality ones like England international Darren Bent. All £24million of him. That was his first Premier League goal of the season.
Bit harsh I have to say on Southampton. They have kept the ball well enough, although they have created little. But, then again, so have Villa.
Are they on course for back-to-back away wins I wonder? The Villa fans are getting right behind Paul Lambert's side here at St Mary's.
Such a soft goal to concede for Southampton as Stephen Ireland fires his effort from just inside the area into the ground and the ball bounces up kindly to Bent, who pokes the ball into the far corner, giving Paulo Gazzaniga no chance.
Gaston Ramirez's delicious pass finds Adam Lallana, who is clean through, but given offside. Replays show he might have just been on!
However, it comes to nothing as Brad Guzan takes charge of his area. Very commanding from the Villa stopper!
Good pressure from Southampton before the ball drops to Adam Lallana in the six-yard box, but his attempted overhead kick is weak and easy caught by Guzan.
Skipper Adam Lallana is looking to get involved at every opportunity as the visitors win a throw on halfway.
The quality hasn't been great so far, although the home side are starting to assert their dominance on the ball in the last few minutes and the home fans are loving this.
Jose Fonte makes a cracking challenge to deny Eric Lichaj's left-foot cross from reaching the six-yard box.
The Japan international, who played for his country during the Olympics, has looked different class this afternoon. Stand out player so far!
Ron Vlaar climbs highest to head the ball away and now Ireland looks to find the run of Benteke, but Maya Yoshida sweeps up at the back yet again.
Prior to that shot, the Villa fans were singing club captain Stiliyan Petrov's name. He is now in remission and winning his battle against leukaemia.
Gaston Ramirez sets his sights on goal from the edge of the box in a central position, but he pulls his effort wide of the target. Not a bad effort from the Uruguay international.
Excellent defensive work from Jason Puncheon as he holds off Eric Lichaj to win his side a goal kick.
The Moroccan hasn't made the best of starts today and has given the ball away on a number of occasions already today.
At the other end, Saints keep possession well, until Morgan Schneiderlin brings down Karim El Ahmadi.
Now, Villa win a free-kick and Barry Bannan floats the ball into the box, but Maya Yoshida does well to head the ball well clear of danger.
Steven Davis is urged to have a go from the home supporters, but he slices his effort well wide of the target. Very disappointing!
Victory over Swansea last weekend ended a run of 13 Premier League games without a win for Villa (W1 D6 L7). You would expect that confidence to flow through the players this afternoon, although its been a pretty even start so far.
The ball breaks to Saints from Karim El Ahmadi's poor challenge and Rickie Lambert attempts a curler from the edge of the box, but the ball is well over the crossbar.
The away supporters are making some noise at the start of this game as Guzan looks for Benteke down field.
The American is starting his third game in a row now ahead of Shay Given. Manager Paul Lambert has shown plenty of faith in the shot-stopper.
The home side are starting to settle on the ball now as Morgan Schneiderlin lofts a high ball into the box, but Brad Guzan makes an easy catch.
Matthew Lowton makes a firm challenge on Adam Lallana but then Gaston Ramirez shows a nice touch as he looks to play a one-two with Rickie Lambert on the edge of the box, but just fails to get the return ball.
The pressure in on the home side to deliver three points this afternoon, but Villa haven't recorded back-to-back wins since May 2011 and they haven't won away from home since January.
Villa are wearing their luminous shirts ad dark shorts and hooped socks, while Saints are in all-red.
Referee Jon Moss blows his whistle to start the game and the home side get us underway. The pitch is looking immaculate on the south coast.

Dave emails in to say: "I like the look of our side today and there seems to be some strength on the bench, something we've lacked over the last couple of seasons. I'm going for a comfortable 3-1 villa win with Bent and Benteke getting the goals. Southampton are there for the taking."
Southampton are 7/5 to claim victory with our friends over at @SKYBET, who make Aston Villa 15/8 and the draw 23/10. Saints' new signing Gaston Ramirez is 8/1 to bag the first goal of the day while Rickie Lambert is 11/2 and 6/4 to score in 90 minutes. Adam Lallana is 16/1 to score a brace while Morgan Schneiderlin is a good outside bet at 25/1. Meanwhile, Villa's Christian Benteke is 7/1 and 80/1 to hit a hat-trick. Darren Bent is 11/2 and 9/1 to score a brace. Stephen Ireland and Charles N'Zogbia are both 14/1. I'm going for a pre-match prediction of 1-2, which is 9/1. Head now to www.skybet.com to place your bets folks.
Paulo Gazzaniga is handed his Premier League debut today as Southampton manager Nigel Adkins drops regular number one Kelvin Davis. The 20-year-old Argentinian goalkeeper joined the south coast club from Gillingham in the summer and replaces stalwart Davis, who conceded 14 goals in the four games this season. This was one of three changes made by Saints as they hand full debuts to Maya Yoshida and Gaston Ramirez.
SOUTHAMPTON: Gazzaniga, Clyne, Yoshida, Fonte, Fox, Puncheon, Schneiderlin, Steven Davis, Lallana, Lambert, Ramirez.
ASTON VILLA: Guzan, Lowton, Vlaar, Clark, Lichaj, Holman, Ireland, El Ahmadi, Bannan, Bent, Benteke.
Meanwhile Joe says: "Hoping for a win for Villa today but will be tuff as Southamton will be desperate for some points!!!!"
Dave is first to send in his thoughts via email and he says: "I think Southampton have been so unlucky this season, and their rise towards Premier League status has been wonderful to watch after all their troubles. I definitely think today is the day the Saints will pick up their first points of the campaign, and probably all three against an unpredictable Villa side of late. I am going for a 2-0 home win."

What do you think Villa fans. Do you want to see more of Benteke? He certainly looked sharp when he came on for the last 20 minutes against Swansea last weekend and Darren Bent looked far more comfortable playing alongside him.
Villa fans are eager to see more of Benteke after the striker's goalscoring cameo against Swansea. The Belgium international is pushing for a place alongside Darren Bent on the south coast and Lambert reckons the young forward is an exciting proposition. "Benteke is only 21, that's what you have to remember," the Scot said. "He's only a kid and he's just starting his career. But his role in the last 15 minutes or so against Swansea was excellent. He came over after playing a hard game for his national team in the week, coming back and playing for us, doing what he did, was excellent. He's only 21 and he'll make mistakes like everybody else but I thought he was excellent."
Paul Lambert could be tempted to hand summer signing Christian Benteke his first Premier League start today following his goalscoring cameo against Swansea. Darren Bent is looking for his first Premier League goal since February. Ron Vlaar should continue to captain the side. The Villa manager has Chris Herd and Fabian Delph available after injuries but Marc Albrighton (foot) is not quite ready and Richard Dunne (groin) and Gary Gardner (ligaments) are long-term absentees.
Another Saints new boy Maya Yoshida is targeting three points against Villa after last weekend's baptism of fire at Arsenal. The Japan international joined the south coast side from VVV Venlo late in the transfer window and was thrown in at the deep end at the Emirates Stadium. "I want to show my good qualities to the Southampton supporters and this time win the game."
Record signing Gaston Ramirez is in line for his full debut after coming off the bench in the 6-1 hammering against Arsenal last weekend. He joined on deadline day from Bologna for £12million. Can he be the man to give your boys the lift they need?
Saints have lost their first four matches back in the top flight, leading some to suggest that manager Nigel Adkins' position is in jeopardy and relegation back to the Championship beckons. They have already equalled Swindon's record for most goals conceded (14) in the first four games of a Premier League season and we all know what happened to them! Rafa Benitez and Harry Redknapp have already been linked with a mangerial position at the club, even though Adkins is still in charge. What are you thoughts Southampton fans? Do you think your team are sinking back down into the Championship? Send me your views.
