Team news for Tuesday night's Johnstone's Paint Trophy clash between Southend and Charlton at Roots Hall.

Southend manager Paul Sturrock has Peter Gilbert back from suspension for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy visit of Charlton. Gilbert is back to face Phil Parkinson's men after his one-match suspension, which saw him sit out of the FA cup draw with Macclesfield after the postponement of the Cheltenham game due to floodlight failure, was completed. The defender could return the Sturrock's defence at Roots Hall. Ryan Hall came off the bench to influence proceedings on Saturday and is pushing for start with Barry Corr also wanting a promotion from the bench after his late goal earned the Shrimpers a replay against Macclesfield. Craig Easton is likely to keep his place in midfield after returning to the side following a calf injury which has hampered his season. Charlton boss Phil Parkinson will be boosted by the availability of midfielder Lee Martin when the Addicks take on Southend. The 23-year-old, on-loan from Ipswich, was denied permission to play in the FA Cup first-round goalless draw with League Two strugglers Barnet but could return to the starting line-up against the Shrimpers. Pawel Abbott is pushing for a start after replacing Joe Anyinsah at half-time against Barnet and looking lively up front, only just failing to get on the scoresheet with a header that hit the bar. Kyel Reid could also be pushing for a start following his cameo at the weekend and Ross Worner, Miguel Llera, Jonathan Fortune, Alan McCormack and Akpo Sodje will all be hoping to get a chance but Parkinson has no new injury worries.
