Stevenage v Crewe preview

Stevenage hope to have Charlie Griffin back while Calvin Zola is in contention to start for Crewe.

Boro hope to call on Griffin; Zola in line to start for Railwaymen

Stevenage boss Graham Westley is hoping to have striker Charlie Griffin back in his starting line-up for the visit of Crewe. Griffin was substituted in the first half of Boro's League Two draw with Aldershot last weekend due to concussion. He missed the midweek Johnstone's Paint Trophy clash with Brentford and will be assessed ahead of the game with the Railwaymen. Fellow striker Chris Beardsley is sidelined with a dislocated shoulder - the same injury that will also prevent midfielder Darren Murphy from taking part. Despite suffering cup defeats to Portsmouth and Brentford, Boro are unbeaten in the league at home this season ahead of Crewe's visit. In their last home outing, Westley's side overcame Stockport 3-1 thanks to two goals from Griffin and a Michael Bostwick strike.

Crewe news

Calvin Zola is back in contention for a place in Crewe's starting line up at the Football League newcomers. Last season's top goalscorer missed the 7-0 thrashing of Barnet and the Carling Cup defeat to Ipswich with a knee injury sustained in training. But he did his prospects of a recall no harm with a cameo role from the substitutes' bench in the 1-1 draw at Lincoln last weekend. Assistant manager Steve Davis said: "He kept the ball well and created chances, so on the back of that he is in the frame for Saturday." Defender Matt Tootle is closing in on a return to the squad after suffering a hamstring injury against Ipswich. Davis added: "He is not far away and I would expect him to be back a week on Saturday."
