Stockport are still without Jordan Rose and Robbie Williams for the visit of Shrewsbury.

Duo missing for County; Shrews wait on Ainsworth

Stockport boss Paul Simpson is still without Jordan Rose and Robbie Williams for the visit of Shrewsbury. The pair, both summer signings, are amongst a handful of players sidelined through injury. Those two will definitely sit out but others nursing knocks will be assessed near kick off. Simpson's men are without a win this season but the County manager insists he has no axe to grind with the club that sacked him in April. Simpson was shown the door by Shrewsbury towards the end of last season after their League Two play-off hopes were all but ended. Simpson said: "Saturday is a game we want to win because we're at home, and it's another chance to get three points against a good side."

    Shrewsbury news

Lionel Ainsworth will face a late fitness test to determine his participation against Stockport. The 22-year-old missed Tuesday's 2-1 Carling Cup defeat to Stoke having suffered a groin strain in the Shrews 1-1 draw with Aldershot. He will travel with the team to Edgeley Park but it remains to be seen if he will figure in the match. Matt Harrold returns from a one-match ban following his sending off against Aldershot and should go straight back into the starting line-up. But defender Danny O'Donnell faces a month on the sidelines as he needs a hernia operation. Shane Cansdell-Sherriff is likely to continue to deputise for O'Donnell after impressing boss Graham Turner with his display in the narrow 2-1 defeat to Stoke. Kris Bright may come back into the squad after his recovery from illness but he is short of match fitness so is unlikely to start, while Nathan Elder (knee) remains a long-term injury victim with knee ligament damage.
