Hope you enjoyed the commentary tonight with me Rebecca Stephenson. Thanks for all your interaction....I'll see you for another game again soon... in the meantime you can follow me on twitter @1rebs if you so wish!
And thats it - 4 points required now for qualification... the much superieor side won, no doubt about that. Good confidence boost, good performance aside from one comical error by Naughton and Lloris
Two minutes into 4 minutes of added time... deserved win for Tottenham - party time now with AVB waving at the crowd.
This will be a confidence boost for Spurs but to be fair Maribor aren't exactly top Premier League quality - tougher tests will come on Sunday against Manchester City and Arsenal the following week
This should put Spurs in pole position to get qualification... they're now restin Gareth Bale ... Ryan Mason is coming on for him
Lennon should've made it 4 then - trying to lay it off when he probably should have gone for goal himself
Colin - We need to get back into Champions League to keep players like Bale as well as attracting other world class players. We were a little hard done by not to be in the Champions league this year considering we finished fourth last season.
A great attack - Huddlestone plays the ball into the path of Bale, he looks up and picks out the on-rushing Jermaine Defoe in the middle - good finish - should be game over
Another chance for Adebayor as Walker plays the ball into his feet but its saved at the near post by the goalkeeper
Apparently Gareth Bale may not last much longer - he's complaining of a headache after that swinging arm - any concussion could be a worry for Sunday's game with Man City
Adebayor has the ball at his feet in the area but as he tries to lay it off the Lennon his accuracy leaves a bit to be desired and it evades the winger
Bale is flabergasted as a blatent obstruction is unpunished.. he would've been clear down the left then - professional foul for me
Surely that's what our friend the 5th official is there for... how he's not seen that contact is beyond me... if he doesn't give a free kick/penalty he HAS to book Defoe for diving there - it was one or the other... and it was a foul
Defoe runs through and looks to be brought down on the edge of the box... certainly caught but the referee gives nothing - that could have been a red card for being the last man for Arghus
Spurs could do with giving themselves another goal's breathing space here - they're far superior but need to transfer that to the scoreboard
Bale's gone down holding his face.. he was caught by a swinging arm to the chin... not sure it was intentional but there's blood to prove the contact
A great move of umpteen passes from Spurs ends with a delicious one-two between Adebayor and Bale, Adebayor is clean through but can't put the finish on it - that was a shame
Free kick delievered by Maribor, Lloris comes for it but gets nowhere near it and its headed over - still danger for Spurs.
Tottenham take back the lead they deserve - and its a typical finish from Jermaine Defoe... played through well by Tom Carroll (great ball) and Defoe hits it across the keeper into the corner - well worked goal all round.. now can they carry on?
An amazing ovation for the former Bolton Wanderers player, who has been forced to retire after collapsing on this pitch earlier this year... obviously an emotional moment for him, and everyone inside the stadium
Those that were inside White Hart Lane that night never thought they'd see this moment - its like a miracle
Fabrice Muamba is about to make an appearance on the pitch here at White Hart Lane - this is going to be emotional as he revisits the venue where he 'died' before being saved by a doctor that came from the crowd
Do you agree, is it too much pressure for Lloris?? and who did you blame for the goal, Naughton or Lloris?
Darren - Spurs keep doing this, Play good then a moment of madness. Avb has smashed Lloris's confidence
Its 2-0 to Lazio in the other game now... not a bad result for Spurs if you consider that will strengthen Lazio's chances of qualification and make it a contest between maribor and spurs for second spot... Spurs SHOULD win this
Maribor have taken heart from the goal, and look a bit more lively - Spurs are a bit shell-shocked here - maybe need half time
Naughton should never have played the ball back to his goalkeeper.. but Lloris needs to learn about the rule of "put ze ballon into row Z" - trying to play his way out of the situation and got embarrassed badly
Kyle Naughton passes back to Lloris who is under pressure from Beric - he fails to clear it and as the players come together the ball scews off the Maribor forward into the net
Hold onto your hats Maribor could and should've been level.. a cross from Tavares finds its way to Cvijanovic's head - he should've done better than to loop it over the bar from 5 yards
Lennon and Bale have switched wings, Lennon's ball almost connects with Walker's head but its just beyond him.. Bale tries a ball from the right, Lennon coming in at the far post just fails to connect
out of nothing Maribor get a corner but it comes to nothing... they do look to be bright on the counter attack if they get chance but Spurs seem in control
Chris - How much longer will Gareth Bale be a Spurs player? Far too good to be playing in this competition.
Slight chance for Maribor but Cvijanovic's ball is cut out (and I hope he's not too active in this game!!)
I'm sure Spurs would prefer Adebayor to be playing more forward - I think he needs to be on the end of these crosses coming into the box - not helping deliver them
It was a superb ball from Bale, powerfully curled to the near post and Defoe just angled it into the far corner.. no more than Spurs deserve
Another cross, this time from Adebayor finds Jermaine Defoe, but his header is saved... he might've done batter with that one
Mazy run from Lennon leads to another corner... Huddlestone delivers again, and its another corner...
Oh, hang on a minute - Spurs have got a gaolkeeper playing!!! After 17 minutes Lloris finally gets a touch
If you fancy a flutter - Gareth Bale for the first goal at 6/1, or Lennon at 8/1 might be worth a punt with SkyBet... Bale hits a powerful cross/shot but it evades everyone in the box
Maribor have their first attack but Ibrahimi's shot is blocked and we revert to type with Spurs possession
Adebayor is applauded for his strength in holding off three defenders there, Spurs knocking it about with huge confidence.. only one team in this at the moment
Huddlestone's corner goes out for a Spurs throw in on the far side... and in the end its a goal kick
Adebayor's header goes over... few empty seats in White Hart Lane tonight.. this competition does struggle to capture the imagination at times
Matt from Auckland also raises a good point - he thinks the winner of this competition should get automatic qualification to the following season's Champions League... what do you think ?... maybe we'll have a look at what you think of that at half time...
Matt in Auckland - My prediction is 3-1 to Spurs with Bale and Lennon causing havoc down the flanks and Defoe, Adebayor and Vertonghen scoring our goals. Unfortunately our defensive frailties will probably prevent us from keeping a clean sheet.
Shaun - Hoping Spurs can use this game to break the winless streak. Team is short on confidence. Glad Gallas isn't starting - may just have a chance of a win.
Just over 10 minutes to kick off. A lot of you were hoping to see Jake Livermore partnering Huddlestone in midfield tonight but its a chance for Tom Carroll... is that a risk?
Paul, Cork - Will be nice to see the two strikers upfront but we look lightweight in midfield. Any win will do though.
Wayne - I Can see the pace of spurs undoing them tonight.. will be Bales night, 3-0 with Ade on the scoresheet
So Spurs fans get the chance to see Defoe and Adebayor play together after their disgruntled calls at the weekend.. is it the right team to get the much needed win tonight?
I'm Rebecca Stephenson and I'll be guiding you through events tonight. But please get involved - you can tweet me @1rebs or email me at email@example.com - I'll get your views online. Lets have a good debate tonight whether you're watching the game or not.
