A Dale Stephens brace handed Paul Dickov a great start to his managerial career as Oldham beat Tranmere 2-1 at Prenton Park.
The visitors made the brighter start as Warren Feeney saw an early effort turned wide for a corner by home keeper Gunnar Nielson before Lewis Alessandra blazed just over from the edge of the box. The opening goal came on 27 minutes with Stephens wrong-footing Nielson from the edge of the box after Joss Labadie fouled Jason Jarrett. Tranmere were finding it hard to create any openings but Labadie gave them hope when flashing a header just wide in the 64th minute during a rare period of pressure. However, it was virtually all over in the 82nd minute when Stephens found the left corner from 20 yards when set up by Feeney. Ian Thomas-Moore did head a consolation for Tranmere after an 89th minute corner but it came too late to force an equaliser.
