Play-off-chasing Tranmere held on to secure a 1-0 win against Swindon at Prenton Park.

Goodison sees red at Prenton Park Play-off chasing Tranmere Rovers held on to secure a 1-0 win against Swindon Town after having skipper Ian Goodison sent off just before the hour-mark at Prenton Park. Defeat for the Robins leaves them in relegation trouble but they did not look like League One strugglers. The home side threatened little in the opening period. Ian Moore went closest with two efforts - one saved by Peter Brezovan and the other going wide. Swindon produced some good approach play. Simon Cox saw two shots blocked, while Billy Paynter was also out of luck with one shot finding the side-netting. The Merseysiders seized the advantage after 48 minutes with a well-taken goal by Antony Kay, who neatly controlled a high, bouncing ball just inside the box as the Town defence hesitated. But Tranmere were down to 10 men after 59 minutes, with Goodison shown a red card for bringing down the goal-bound Cox just outside the box.
