All over - and Ghana are into the World Cup quarter-finals, where they will play Uruguay! Credit to the USA as they fought back once again after going a goal behind but you can't deny Ghana their moment. Africa's participation in the 2010 World Cup goes on!
The corner is punched clear well by Kingson and then it's worked back in, only for Kingson to punch again under pressure from his fellow goalkeeper. Then DeMerit lofts a shot just over.
Great block from Jonathan Mensah as Dempsey fires in a shot from close range. Heroic defending. Then Gomez shoots from 20 yards and it deflects behind for a corner.
Ayew goes down under the challenge of Edu - free-kick to Ghana just inside the American half. So near now.
USA just struggling to force an opening here as Ghana get tight to their men as soon as they get into their half.
Muntari's corner is met by Gyan at the front post but his flick-on drifts right past everyone and out for a throw-in.
Cherundolo hoists the ball into the box and Dempsey meets it. The ball flies up off a Ghana defender and looks to have wrongfooted Kingson but he reacts and plunges onto it comfortably in the end.
Donovan takes the corner short to Cherundolo, whose ball in is headed clear by Asamoah. Then Addy heads his second cross away. Poor delivery there from the full-back.
Inkoom hops off the stretcher and is ready to resume. Tempers definitely flaring here - hope it doesn't boil over.
Boos ring around the stadium when the ball goes out, and Inkoom does need treatment. Not quite what sure it's for as it looked a pretty innocuous fall to be honest.
Feilhaber clips a decent cross into the Ghana box but Addy heads clear well at the back post. Inkoom stays down but USA aren't buying it and they play on.
Bornstein skips is way past Inkoom and draws a foul as the Ghana man pulls his shorts as he passes. Great chance to get a good ball into the box here.
Dempsey and Bradley try to link up around 25 yards from the Ghana goal but the former's ball to the latter is just a little heavy and Ghana smack it clear. No-nonsense defending at the moment.
Edu pulled back for a foul on Appiah. Probably a fair call, but no need for Appiah to stay down there. Got a bad feeling we could get a bit of niggle here in the last 13 minutes or so.
Stephen Denham is back on - and deservedly so. He writes: "My oh my, I should of had a bet on this game! Check my last email for the reason why, I just hope the score stays the same." For those too lazy to check back, he went 2-1 Ghana and has all three goalscorers spot on!
Donovan takes it short to Cherundolo, who does clip it in. It's worked out to Bocanegra down the left and he stands up a cross but Edu just can't get a head on it at the back post.
Free-kick USA as John Mensah is penalised in an aerial challenge with Dempsey. Donovan will surely clip this into the box as we approach half-time in extra-time.
USA spring on the counter-attack but Donovan plays a poor crossfield ball which the backtracking Addy intercepts.
Good series of passes from Ghana which knocks another minute off the clock. Appiah growing in influence the more the clock ticks on here. He'll be vital if they are to hold on.
Bradley knocks a ball over the top which Gomez chases gamely. Pantsil is caught by Gomez as he clears, and stays down. Pretty innocuous that.
Donovan takes the corner short to Cherundolo, who stands a cross up. Kingson is far from convincing under it, but Edu can't get enough on it and his header drifts wide.
Ayew off the field on a stretcher, but he's sitting up so doesn't look too serious. We'll see if he returns...
Ayew needs treatment. More a clash of bodies that crocked him rather than blocking the ball. The magic spray is out.
Free-kick worked short before being clipped into the box. Dempsey heads it back for Feilhaber to smack in a shot, which deflects wide from a sea of Ghanaian bodies. Ayew down - presumably after blocking the shot.
USA get a free-kick as Inkoom is adjudged to have obstructed him while on the floor. Chance to get it into the box.
Can't speak highly enough of Gyan there - he could easily have gone down when Bocanegra barged into him from behind but he somehow kept his balance and smashed it home.
GOAL - GYAN. Barely seconds after I write that Ghana are back in front! A long ball is lofted forward by Ayew and Gyan shrugs off the challenge of Bocanegra before drilling home from the angle. Great finish and it's game on now.
Pretty low-key opening to extra-time thus far. Both sides struggling to string passes together. Doesn't bode well.
USA looked the stronger of the sides in that second half of normal time - wonder if they'll force that home in the extra 30 minutes.
That's the last act of normal time so we're heading for extra-time for the first time in this tournament.
Asamoah skips into space down the left and sends over a good cross which Bornstein has to head behind. One last chance.
Bornstein pumps the free-kick forward but it bobbles its way harmlessly through to Kingson in the Ghana goal.
Altidore does good defensive work to nick the ball away from Ayew and power forward. Ayew clips his heels and is booked - he'll miss the next game if Ghana go through. Bit harsh that - Altidore's trailing leg just caught his shin.
Gyan back to his feet and Donovan returns possession to Ghana from the subsequent drop-ball. We'll have three minutes of added time. Are we heading for an extra half-hour?
Gyan has stayed down in the area and Howard has brought the referee's attention to it. Total accident there - DeMerit caught him in the chest with his boot as he headed clear.
The throw comes to nothing as Feilhaber can't get it under control. Ghana launch a foray forward and Ayew and Inkoom combine well only for DeMerit to head clear well.
Appiah slips the ball down the left for Gyan but despite his best efforts it just trickles over the byline for a goal-kick.
USA coming forward as the clock ticks down but Ghana holding firm, with Jonathan Mensah still prominent.
Annan clips a lovely ball through to Ayew but the winger has just wandered a yard offside and the linesman is alert to it.
Donovan cuts in on his left and smacks in a shot but Jonathan Mensah deflects it away off his thigh.
Appiah whips the ball in from the left and Gyan manages to get another header in, but it's always drifting wide of Howard's goal.
Dempsey smacks the free-kick into the wall at the same end of the stadium as he scored that goal past Robert Green.
Jonathan Mensah comes through the back of Dempsey in an aerial challenge - they've got a bit of a battle waging at the moment. Free-kick but nothing more.
Altidore bursts onto a long ball with John Mensah in close attendance. As they scrap for the ball just inside the Ghana box Altidore slips but still manages to get a shot away. It drifts wide.
Not sure if there was any contact from Boateng as he challenged Donovan - he just seemed to pull up.
USA playing much better football now - and a lovely passing move presents Bradley with a decent chance after springing the offside trap. He opts to shoot first time when he could probably take it on, but his left-footed effort is saved by Kingson pretty comfortably in the end.
Gyan does well to fashion a header from a tricky ball in from Inkoom. Not really a surprise as it drifts off target - he did well to even get it anywhere near the goal from where he was.
Bradley smacks in a shot which flies off Jonathan Mensah. Relieved looks from the Ghana defenders as it drifts to safety. That could have gone anywhere.
Great defending from Pantsil as he gets in front of Altidore and allows Kingson to gather a bouncing ball unchallenged.
Gavin Macartney reckons Jonathan Mensah got a touch on the ball in the challenge on Dempsey so it shouldn't have been a penalty. Didn't spot that on the first replay I have to admit.
USA spring forward down the right as Ghana look to be lining up their first substitute of the night.
Bocanegra the latest player in the book. He's adjudged to have fouled Gyan, though the striker would say it's his second in quick succession!
Altidore springs the offside trap and advances on Kingson. The goalkeeper goes with his feet but the unconventional approach works as he nicks the ball away with an excellent sliding tackle.
Gyan looks to spin past Bocanegra after a lovely first touch and goes to ground. No free-kick though.
Bit of a lull since the goal - Ghana struggling to string passes together now. They're a young side and looks like their confidence has taken a bit of a knock.
USA with the momentum now - and I'm pleased my assertion we'd see another goal proved to be true. No doubts about how resolute the USA side are - but how will Ghana react to being pegged back?
Lovely nutmeg from Dempsey in the lead-up to the challenge from Jonathan Mensah. Possibly a case the Ghana man could have seen red, though it was fairly wide in the penalty area.
GOAL - DONOVAN. Cool as you like from Donovan as he sends the goalkeeper the wrong way from the spot, his kick bouncing in off the post. He's now the USA's top goalscorer in World Cup finals and we're all-square.
Dempsey skips down the inside right channel and Jonathan Mensah comes across and hacks him down. Definite penalty.
Good stuff from the USA down the right and Donovan gets a cross in. Altidore cuts it back for Feilhaber but his shot is blocked by a mass of bodies. US appeals for a penalty - a bit stronger this time - are waved away.
Ayew bursts into acres of space down the Ghana right and slides a lovely ball in which Gyan looks destined to turn home until DeMerit thrusts out a leg to block it. Though Ayew was lining up a shot but that was a very clever ball.
Donovan goes down after a robust challenge from Boateng. Nothing wrong with the tackle, though, and Donovan is quickly back up to his feet.
Dempsey bursts down the right but John Mensah executes an excellent challenge to turn the ball behind for a corner. Muted appeals for a penalty for the US there but it was a superb tackle.
Donovan clips a curling ball in from the left which just evades Dempsey at the back post. He's seeing plenty of the ball now and for some reason it's Ghana that have stepped off. Could be 'famous' last words but I don't think we've seen the last goal in this one.
Really open game this now - Dempsey gets a cross in from the right which is half-cleared then Bornstein bobbles one in from the left which Kingson gathers. Not the worst of balls in that - but Altidore was caught on his heels initially.
Ghana spring on the counter-attack and it's Gyan this time who fires in an ambitious shot which drifts wide of Howard's right-hand post.
Jonathan Mensah is alert once again to clip the ball clear as Bradley and Donovan link up well just outside the Ghana area.
Boateng opts to shoot rather than clip the ball into the box for Ayew or Gyan - but it's a poor effort. The look Gyan shoots his team-mate tells the story. Very selfish.
Good defending from Bornstein as he tracks the run of Inkoom before sliding in to put the ball out for a throw.
USA giving Ghana much less time on the ball here early in the second half - it was needed, but it's good to see them putting it into practice.
Donovan clips a lovely ball in towards Dempsey but the Mensahs - first Jonathan then John - combine to clear.
Feilhaber straight into the action as he draws an excellent save from Kingson. Good move from the US and Altidore slides it onto the substitute. He advances on goal but his flicked shot is well saved by Kingson. Much better from the US though.
Ghana straight on the attack in the second half but Boateng just can't slide in Ayew down the left and the USA clear.
Half-time bulletin from Sky Bet. They now go 6/1 USA, 14/5 the draw and 4/9 Ghana. Landon Donovan has pulled the Americans out of a hole a couple of times already in this World Cup and he needs to do it yet again. He's 7/1 to score next.
That's half-time and Ghana deservedly lead. More of the same will surely be the message from their boss at the break and while I'm not familiar with Bob Bradley's management style I can think of plenty of coaches around the world who on seeing this first-half performance would spend the next 15 minutes flinging teacups around.
Cherundolo whips a decent ball in from the right but it's just too high for Dempsey at the back post and skips out of play.
USA have definitely brightened up in the last five minutes or so. This time Findley tries to skip down the left but John Mensah holds firm and turns the ball away from danger.
Donovan's corner is headed clear at the front post by John Mensah. It's worked back in by Bornstein but hacked away unceremoniously and the danger passes again.
Boateng and Asamoah link well down the left before the latter fires in a hugely optimistic shot which is closer to row Z than the goal. Took a slight bobble but not convinced that was the right option.
USA at least knocking a few passes together now, but Altidore again runs down a blind alley when he has a simple ball on to Bornstein. Poor play.
Bradley tries to dink a ball over the top of the Ghana defence but just overhits hit. Donovan does his best to keep it in play but it just drifts over the goalline before he can get there.
Asamoah back on now - he's not moving freely but seems to be keen to continue at least for the time being.
Donovan clips a free-kick into the Ghana box but Jonathan Mensah climbs highest in the middle to head clear. Decent ball but a pretty comfortable header in truth. The throw is worked to Donovan again but his cross is gathered by Kingson.
Asamoah has slid off the pitch so can have treatment there while play continues. Ghana down to 10 for the time being.
The goalkeeper's foot to the rescue at the other end now as Asamoah capitalises on an error from DeMerit to smash in a left-footed shot which Howard blocks with his right foot. Asamoah stays down as Bocanegra caught him as he got the shot away.
DeMerit misses a cross from the right but Cherundolo bows him out at the back post by heading clear - and Donovan is then fouled by Ayew, who pleads his innocence.
Finally USA have a genuine goalscoring chance as Dempsey slides in Findley down the inside right channel but his shot is saved by Kingson with his left foot. The ball is then worked back out to Bradley but his shot is again saved by Kingson. Hopefully that'll kickstart the USA as they've been a pale shadow of their usual selves so far.
Pantsil curls a ball into the box but only Gyan has committed to trying to get onto it and it drifts out of play for a throw-in.
Free-kick USA in the centre circle as Edu is on the receiving end of a strong challenge from Annan. Ghana giving the USA a lesson in pressing the man on the ball here.
Jonathan Mensah does well to react to a flick from Bradley that Dempsey momentarily thinks he'll latch onto. The young defender has been much improved so far.
Maurice Edu is on for the USA, with Clark departing. Apart from being booked he's done very, very little. He gets a big hug and an explanation from coach Bob Bradley as he departs but frankly it's the right call.
The USA work the ball through for Altidore in the inside right channel but he's just strayed beyond the last defender.
Boateng fires in a snapshot from distance but it's straight down Howard's throat and easily gathered by the goalkeeper.
USA planning to make their first substitution already. Can't say I'm surprised - they've been pretty terrible so far and Ghana are dominating possession.
DeMerit and Cherundolo get into a mess trying to stop Boateng and the ball bounces to Inkoom on the right. Boateng is up the quickest of those in the middle but Inkoom just overplays the pass and it sails out for an American throw-in.
The corner is headed up into the air by Bradley and Howard comes well to claim under pressure from Jonathan Mensah.
Good link play between Gyan and Inkoom presents the latter with a crossing opportunity and his ball in is headed behind by Bradley at the front post. Too easy for Ghana to get in there - USA need to get a foot in earlier.
Ghana just happy to keep the ball for a moment and take the sting out of that mini-revival from the USA. They've certainly passed the ball much better than their opponents so far.
USA come again and Dempsey finds Bradley in the Ghana box but his cut-back is well gathered by Kingson at the second attempt. Better from the Americans that's for sure.
Donovan curls a decent cross in which Bradley fancies getting on the end of but Asamoah jumps highest in front of him to clear.
Promising for the Americans as Cherundolo forces Boateng into a foul deep in Ghana territory. Good crossing chance this.
The USA get a decent chance to break on the counter-attack but Altidore opts to run rather than pass and he's crowded out. He had Donovan well placed there but opted not to find him.
USA still haven't really settled into this one - they're struggling to string any more than three passes together at the moment.
Gyan smacks in the free-kick but Howard parries it clear of danger and out for a throw-in. Job well done by the 'keeper.
Cherundolo is getting a right chasing here - and he's the latest player booked for hauling down Ayew. He can have absolutely no complaints as that wasn't pretty. That'll rule him out of the quarter-final if the Americans do get through.
Findley momentarily looks like he's latching onto a lofted ball over the top but then Jonathan Mensah reacts and nicks it back to goalkeeper Kingson.
Crunching tackle from Annan on Donovan. Firm but fair - and to Donovan's credit he doesn't appeal for a free-kick despite taking a tumble.
Donovan tries to slide an angled ball through for Findley but Jonathan Mensah reads the danger well to slide it out for a throw. Better from the Americans, though.
Ghana come forward down the right this time but Inkoom's cross is carried clear by DeMerit. Ghana have so much time on the ball here - USA just not pressing them quickly enough.
Ayew tries to get round the back onto a clever ball from Sarpei but Cherundolo is live to the danger and sweeps it away from danger. Much better defending.
Dempsey has an effort half-cleared by Mensah. It drops to Altidore around 25 yards out but he drags his shot well wide of the Ghana goal.
Ayew on the ball once again - the Americans really need to get a grip on him. This time his cutback falls to Boateng but this time his shot, under pressure from Bradley, sails over the bar.
Ayew penalised for a foul on Cherundolo as he tries to win the ball back. Not happy with the decision but he's told in no uncertain terms not to dispute it by the referee.
Lovely passing football from Ghana, but the move breaks down as Ayew can't control an angled ball out to the left.
USA really haven't settled into this game yet - but for Dempsey's long-range effort they've barely seen any of the ball.
Ghana come again - they've started really well here. This time DeMerit is live to the danger, though, and hacks clear from the edge of his six-yard box. Ghana getting plenty of joy down their left in the early stages here.
Clark the first man into the book for a pretty reckless challenge in midfield. Borne out of frustration at already being 1-0 down you'd have thought.
Wow. What a start from Ghana. USA have shown plenty of fighting spirit already in this tournament and they'll have to do so again here.
GOAL - BOATENG. USA conceded early against England here - and they've done so again tonight. Boateng is allowed to break out of midfield to around 20 yards from goal and smacks in a low left-footed shot which beats Howard at his near post.
Almost instant shot at the other end as Dempsey fires in a left-footed effort from distance but it's comfortable for Kingson.
First shot of the game a speculative effort from Inkoom. Pretty tame try from distance - never close to troubling Howard.
Ghana definitely looking to use Ayew as much as possible in the early stages - he's penalised this time, though. Not initially clear if it's handball or if the ball drifted over the line but whatever the reason, the Ghana attack comes to an end.
Decent ball in from the right from Donovan but Altidore is somewhat on his heels and it skips across the box untouched and out for a throw-in down the Ghana right.
Ghana looking to knock the ball around early doors and get as many of their players a touch as possible. Then Ayew bursts down the left but he's shown down a blind alley and USA clear.
Time for one last email before we get the action under way. Stephen Denham writes: "I'm on holiday in the USA at the moment, however I am an England fan. I hope Ghana progress into the quarter-finals so I can wear my England shirt for one more day with pride and rub it in. It will be a tight match but I'll go for 2-1, Ghana...Donovan for the USA and Boateng & Gyan for Ghana."
Pre-match bulletin from Sky Bet. They go 7/5 USA with the draw and Ghana both 21/10. So after their late, late show in the group stage, the USA now find themselves favourites for a quarter final-place. They have been well supported too so Sky Bet will certainly be cheering on Ghana. We've not seen an awful lot of games with goals aplenty and with the betting tight, under 2.5 goals is a strong 8/15 favourite while it is 13/8 over.
Darren Tarburn writes: "I think the USA will win. Maurice Edu will be the driving force in midfield."
Ghana: Kingson, Inkoom, Pantsil, John Mensah, Jonathan Mensah, Sarpei, Annan, Kevin-Prince Boateng, Asamoah, Gyan, Andre Ayew. Subs: Adjei, Derek Boateng, Appiah, Muntari, Tagoe, Amoah, Rahim Ayew, Adiyah, Addy, Owusu-Abeyie, Ahorlu.
The teams are in. USA: Howard, Cherundolo, DeMerit, Bocanegra, Bornstein, Dempsey, Bradley, Clark, Donovan, Altidore, Findley. Subs: Guzan, Spector, Onyewu, Beasley, Gomez, Holden, Buddle, Torres, Edu, Goodson, Feilhaber, Hahnemann.
