The tie is finely poised after the first leg. That away goal could prove to be crucial and Valencia may come to rue some of those missed chances while they were in control. Thanks everyone, hope you enjoyed the game.
A really entertaining game ends in a draw and it was a tale of two halves. Valencia bossed the first 45 but the headlines will go to Raul who snatched a record-breaking leveller.
Schmitz concedes a free-kick. A free-kick is set up and the referee is informed he was already booked earlier on. So that's two yellows and Schmitz departs
Tino Costa miss-kicks a cross and shanks it into the stands. That could be the last chance for the home side to snatch a winner.
Hao is straight into the action as he finds himself clean through on the left. His shot is not the best but still draws a good save from Guaita.
Valencia are still pressing and do look the more likely, yet Guaita tries a very risky clearance and only finds Raul. The striker shoots but the angle is too acute.
Tino Costa fires out a tired ball to the right in search of Joaquin. The winger had come inside and was nowhere to be seen.
Miguel goes in hard on Edu and tries to set Soldado away but slightly overhits the pass. Great desire in the closing moments.
Uchida again denies Vicente out on the left. Blocking the type of cross that were being put in at will during the first half. The Japanese defender has had a great game.
There is quite a hectic pace to the game despite the changes. Valencia are still applying the pressure are every opportunity.
A great introducting from Jordi Alba who flies forward and is taken down by Uchida. The free-kick is taken quickly and lashed across the face. Again no one is there to get on the end of it.
Unai Emery makes his final change as he brings on Jordi Alba in place of Mathieu. Schalke also make a switch bringing on Julian Draxler in place of Farfan.
Neuer is enraged about a corner being given and his complaints land him in the book. The resulting corner comes to nothing.
Vicente again breaks quickly and puts an inch-perfect pass through to Aduriz who tries an audacious chip over Neuer that doesn't quite come off.
Valencia break once again. Vicente feeds in Aduriz who peels off on the left. Another shout for handball but the Schalke defender had his hands down by his sides.
Great work from Mathieu to slide in and take the ball off a charging Farfan. The Valencia man has been great going forward and in defence tonight.
Kluge upends Tino Costa. The Schalke man is running the risk of a yellow for his constant close attention of the Valencia midfielders.
Dreadful back-pass from Ricardo Costa, who so nearly plays in Huntelaar. Some nervous defending there and Costa has his keeper to thank.
Raul is really rolling back the years. His work-rate has been sensational in what could be his last Champions League campaign.
Joaquin moves to the right and takes on one too many defenders as he tries to break into the box. The ball comes off him last and out for a goal-kick.
Joaquin and Vicente look to link up quickly but Vicente fires it straight at an on-rushing defender.
Emery looks to freshen things up and shows what a strong bench he has. Let's see what the introduction of fresh legs does to the game.
It's all Schalke at the minute. Creator of the goal Jurado tries his luck with a free-kick but it rolls tamely into the keeper's arms.
That's the end of Gerd Muller's record, but more importantly, it's a vital away goal for Schalke who now sit in the box seat in this tie.
A new record for Raul there as he bags his 70th goal in major European competitions. Some great work down the left from Jurado to pick out the striker, who holds off his man brilliantly and slots past Guaita.
Ricardo Costa goes into the book for continuing to play after the whistle. The Valencia man was judged offside but still ran through and put it past Neuer. His shooting practice ends in yellow.
Banega tries to find Tino Costa out on the left but it is narrowly cut out by Howedes. The home side look very comfortable going forward.
An entertaining battle there as Tino Costa takes on no less than three Schalke players on the touchline. The Valencia man held his own well there but the ball trickles out of play.
Raul is still throwing his weight around. He is judged to have gone up for a header a bit too heavily against Navarro and is penalised.
Metzelder catches Aduriz on the half-way line, dragging a boot down the striker's Achilles. Luckily the Valencia man is okay to continue.
Fanfan finds some space down the right and stands up a cross for Raul. There was a bit of a push from Ricardo Costa but the Spaniard just couldn't generate enough power on the header.
Raul is working very hard for Schalke but when Valencia go forward they look so threatening. Again Mathieu bombs forward uncontested.
Valencia break in numbers and Soldado finds his strike partner Aduriz on the edge of the area. The striker shapes a curled shot but Neuer was wise to it as he rather telegraphed his intentions.
Yet again a ball flies across the Schalke area. Any tap on that would result in a goal as Mathieu lashes one across the face. He has had a great game for Valencia.
It's certainly been a lively start to this second half. Both sides look to be going for it. Valencia know they need another goal and Schalke are more than in this tie with an away goal.
It's real end-to-end stuff at the Mestalla. Schalke are away and Raul is through on goal. The ball is on his weaker foot and the shot is easy enough for Guaita to save.
Ever Banega does brilliantly down the right and fires a shot straight across the area. Unfortunately for him there was no one to get on the end of it.
A big mistake in defence there as Howedes tries to control a long ball in his area and gives the ball straight to Aduriz. It is cleared somehow.
We are back in action for the second half. No changes have been made to either side. Let's see what Felix Magath has said to his Schalke side in the dressing room.
Unai Emery will be happy with that as Valencia bossed the possession and the scoreline in that first 45. Schalke will need to have a reshuffle during the break if they want to unlock the in-form Spaniards.
A decent chance for Schalke at the end of the half. Kluge nicks a header forward to Huntelaar who is judged to have just strayed offside in the Valencia area.
The Valencia full-backs have been the difference in this half so far. Miguel and Mathieu have bombed forward at every opportunity and provided great width for their team.
Valencia look to be in control at the moment as Schalke just can't get enough service to their front men. Felix Magath will need to look at that during half-time.
A few tasty challenges is going in now as the first-half nears its conclusion. It's been a good half of football.
Huntelaar tries to get a shot away on the edge of the area after some good work from Schmitz. Raul actually got in the way of his fellow striker a bit there.
Uchida goes on a foray down the left but Mathieu does well to fire the ball against the on-rushing right-back to earn a goal kick.
Instead it is Dominguez who curls one just up and over. Well shaped effort there and I don't think anyone expected Dominguez to take it.
Howedes is unhappy as he concedes a free-kick in another dangerous position. Again it is Tino Costa standing over it.
Tino Costa stings the finger-tips of Neuer with a long-range effort but the German keeper saw that one coming.
Great work again from Soldado who powers into the box. Metzelder does well to force him off the ball but the striker gets up quickly and actually beats the defender to the ball! Very lively play.
Tino Costa sends a disguised free-kick over to Aduriz who had peeled away on the right. The striker was in acres of space but cannoned his shot against the side netting. Good chance there.
Raul finds himself in space but gives the ball away rather cheaply to Navarro. An error that draws a large cheer from the home fans. Raul has tortured them many times down the years for Real Madrid.
Another great chance for Soldado. Miguel fires in another ball and the striker steals half a yard on Metzelder and glances a header just wide of the post.
Valencia are getting the better of the possession at the moment. Aduriz and Soldado are moving are the pitch in search of the ball and the full-backs are getting forward.
Frantic few moments there as Schalke were really pressing. First real glimpse of Farfan down the left who looks to be seeing more of the ball.
Uchida links up with Farfan down the left who has a call for handball turned down, then Uchida puts a ball in for Kluge, who sees his header tipped against the bar by Guaita.
Looks like the first bit of tinkering on the touchline from Emery. He will be happy with how his side have approached this first half.
Dominguez puts in a cross from the left but Neuer is uncertain and tips it over his own goal. Luckily for the keeper it was already out before he touched it.
Farfan breaks up some nice play from Valencia down the left. The winger drives forward but is edged out.
Big scramble on the edge of the Valencia area. Schalke struggle to get control of the ball and it falls to Kluge who's shot is deflected wide.
Soldado is everywhere at the moment. He gets the ball on the right and tries to pick out Aduriz in the box. Howedes is equal to the task and clears.
Great width from Valencia as Mathieu flies forward and fires in a beautiful cross from the left and there is Soldado to angle it home. Brilliant goal from the home side.
Joel Matip earns the first yellow card of the night for going in late on Alejandro Dominguez. A bit rash from the youngster there.
Miguel has a little nibble at Jurado who goes down facing his own goal. The midfielder was in a bit of trouble there and bought the foul.
Kluge wastes possession out on the left. His through-ball was meant for a team-mate but ran straight through to Guaita.
Raul is caught offside after some great one-touch passing from the away side. It won't be the last time he's caught tonight as he looks for his 60th goal in major European competition.
Neuer took a bit of a chance there outside his own box with Aduriz bearing down on him. A quick bit of skill got the keeper out of trouble there.
The Dutchman was almost in too much space there. Clearly surprised the ball fell his way. Best chance of the early going by a long stretch.
Wow a real let-off for Valencia there. The corner is cleared but lofted back into the box. Huntelaar completely misses his kick with the goall gaping. A hint of handball in there too from the home side.
Peer Kluge is down in the middle of the park. The Schalke man had a nasty coming together with Tino Costa but appears to be okay.
A bit of link up play between Huntelaar and Raul is snuffed out by Costa. Schalke certainly have a potent pair of strikers.
The home fans are in great voice tonight. It will be interesting to see how Unai Emery tinkers with his squad this evening.
Early free-kick for the visitors there. Jurado fizzed it in from wide and that was a rather nervous punch from Guaita.
Valencia are passing it around nicely in the early going. They will need to take an early foothold as a clean sheet will be all important tonight.
A ball is fired forward early for Soldado but it is just too long for the Valencia forward. What sort of impact will he have this evening?
And we're underway in Spain. Both sides are flying under the radar in the competition this year so will be eager to impress.
Players lined up waiting for a Champions League anthem that never came. Slight technical hitch at the Mestalla.
The big story tonight is that Raul is just one goal away from taking the record for most goals scored in major European competition. Gerd Muller will no doubt be an interested spectator this evening.
Sky Bet odds: Valencia are 4/6 on to take a home win tonight. Schalke are 4/1 to take a valuable away win, while a draw is currently 11/4.
