First league win eludes both sides ahead of meeting at The Hawthorns

Both sides are seeking their first Premier League win of the season as West Brom host Stoke City on Sunday. With Stoke potentially feeling the effects of Thursday night's Europa League success over FC Thun, the Baggies will hope to capitalise with their first win over the Potters since 2003. That was in the old Football League Division One, and boss Roy Hodgson will hope to get his first points of the season having opened with defeats against Manchester United and Chelsea respectively. Stoke, who earned an opening weekend point against Chelsea, gained a late point at Norwich last Sunday, and have won both their Premier League trips to The Hawthorns without conceding a goal. However, West Brom have scored in their last 15 consecutive league matches, their longest run in the Premier League and the longest current run of any side in the top flight.

    Team news

Hodgson is considering whether to give a first start of the season to striker Peter Odemwingie, but Shane Long should keep his place after an impressive start to his Baggies career, with two goals in as many games. The Nigeria international, Albion's top scorer with 15 goals last term, has recovered from an ankle injury suffered in pre-season and came on as a substitute during last weekend's 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge. Midfielder Zoltan Gera is the only player currently sidelined as he builds up his fitness after ankle surgery. Meanwhile, Stoke have influential duo Robert Huth and Matthew Etherington back for the trip. The pair return to the Potters squad having both been suspended for the Potters' mid-week European victory. Manager Tony Pulis withdrew Jermaine Pennant in the second half of that game as a precaution and hopes the winger will be fit to face the Baggies, while Rory Delap will also be assessed for a hamstring problem.
