West Brom 0 Tottenham 1. Bale's second-half thunderbolt settles the tie, with Popov's dismissal leaving West Brom with too much to do. Spurs move to within a point of Chelsea in third.
Bale away again and, guess what, he wins another corner. Spurs take the set-piece short, as they run down the clock.
Dawson concedes a late free-kick. One last chance for West Brom to snatch something. Foster makes his way forward. Brunt whips over the delivery, but Lloris comes and claims - at the second attempt.
Bale has a bloodied lip but soon re-joins the game. Looking increasingly likely that his spectacular strike will be the match-winner today.
Dawson with a tough challenge on Fortune, but he wins the ball while leaving the Baggies forward on the deck. Reid then catches Bale and he stays down holding his face. He was caught by an arm as he went over a Brunt tackle.
Ridgewell able to see out the threat of Bale, as he pops up on the right wing. From the throw, Holtby and Sigurdsson fail to combine on the edge of the box.
The set-piece is played short, before the ball is fed out to Parker. He ends up going all the way back to Lloris. When Spurs do look forward, Bale finds Sigurdsson in space on the right. He scuffs an attempted cross along the ground.
Fortune looking to get up alongside Long, with Clarke having sent on two forward-thinking players. No way through, though, and Bale moves up the other end to win another corner - Spurs' 16th.
Foster launches a free-kick long. Spurs can only half-clear to Morrison. He lobs the ball high into the box, where Lloris comes and claims. Olsson and Dawson collide, but nothing in that.
Spurs win yet another corner. They fare much better with this one, as Bale is able to get a head to the delivery. He makes powerful contact, but can't direct his effort goalwards.
Spurs move through midfield, with Parker picking out Lennon wide on the left. He is allowed to drift into the box and onto his right foot. His well-struck shot is kept out by a brave block.
Bale finding space all over the place now. He has been given freedom to roam by Villas-Boas and has been a constant threat this afternoon.
Bale brings the game down to a walking pace, with West Brom clearly tiring. They are doing their best to close down space and keep the score down, but there may be more joy for Spurs yet.
Double change by West Brom, with Dorrans and Yacob hauled off. Fortune and Rosenberg sent on by Clarke.
Bale with room to run into down the left flank. He skips past Reid with ease and fires over another dangerous cross. His delivery flashes across the face of goal and away on the far side.
Top defending from Dawson as he leans into Long and prevents him from getting on the end of a clever pass fed down the channel and into the Spurs box. Up at the other end, Dempsey concedes a needless free-kick. West Brom go to Long again, and he fires at Lloris from just inside the box. He had to strike early with Dawson once again in his face.
Yet another corner for Spurs comes to nothing. West Brom make a rare foray forward, but Yacob tries a difficult dinked pass over Parker and presents the ball back to Spurs.
West Brom making virtually no effort to step out and put Spurs under pressure on halfway. They only look interested once the visitors get to within 30 yards of goal.
Bale able to force over a low cross with his right foot, as he slips. McAuley in the right place to hack clear for West Brom. Spurs able to take as long as they want with the ball in the heart of midfield.
Lennon looking to get involved more and more, dropping deep to collect the ball. He is being awarded a lot of space in midfield.
Holtby into the box and claims a back-pass as Olsson gets a touch to the ball before Foster gathers. Never going to get that decision. Foster looks up and only has Long to aim at, who is surrounded by Spurs defenders.
Long doing his best to put Spurs' back four under pressure, but he is fighting a losing battle. West Brom look like they are relying on a moment of magic or a counter attack to get anything out of this game.
Dempsey allowed to carry the ball a long way, as West Brom stand off him. He exchanges passes with Holtby, but gets in a muddle once inside the box. He tries to lift the ball over Olsson, but knocks it against his own body.
Ridgewell able to nod Holtby's delivery clear. Spurs have been poor from set-piece situations today. Foster gets away with another sloppy clearance, as he fires straight at Holtby.

Dorrans goes into the book after catching Parker late. He offers no complaints as the ball had clearly gone.
Surely Spurs will control this game from here on out and take the points. They were looking a bit nervy as they struggled to force a breakthrough against 10 men, but can now relax.
GOAL TOTTENHAM - BALE. That man again, and another wonderful strike from Bale. He is found in space 20 yards from goal, works the ball onto his left foot and crashes the ball into the top corner past Foster.
Ridgewell caught offside when he was looking right along the line. Sloppy from the full-back. Yacob back on his feet after being caught in a 50-50 challenge with Dembele.
West Brom give possession away again, just as they were looking to set up camp inside the Spurs half. The visitors move forward, but Dempsey ends up on the deck.
Foster takes his time with a clearance, with Dempsey closing him down. Not happening for Spurs, with Parker sending a pass out of play. Vertonghen has to concede a throw in front of Long.
Holtby goes long with his delivery this time, but gets the same end result - West Brom clear their lines. Assou-Ekotto finds Holtby down the left once more. He drifts inside before finding Dempsey. A snap-shot from the edge of the box is easily saved by Foster.
Assou-Ekotto crosses towards Dempsey, but Olsson gets a telling touch once more. Spurs try their luck from the other flank, with Holtby finding Vertonghen. He lines up a 35-yard drive, which flicks behind for a corner.
Lennon skips inside, past Brunt, but can't find a team-mate. Ridgewell settles for a throw as Spurs try to force the issue. They have plenty of time in which to find a winner and don't need to rush things.
Bale back on his feet, much to the relief of Villas-Boas. Foster sends his second clearance of the afternoon straight out of play. He has the whole pitch to aim at!
Patient build-up again from Spurs. West Brom getting men behind the ball and looking to shut up shop. They can't prevent Bale escaping in behind, but Foster is alert again as he comes to close out the Spurs winger. Bale stays down after being sent spinning by the Baggies keeper.
Holtby looks for Bale at the near post, but again a West Brom head gets there first. The loose ball squirms to Walker, who slices a volley wildly wide of the target from 12 yards out.
West Brom pegged back on the edge of their own box. Parker can't thread a pass through a collection of bodies. Lennon keeps the ball in play and finds Walker. His delivery lets him down again. Spurs keep coming and Foster concedes another corner as he comes to meet Holtby.
Better from Spurs as they free Parker in midfield. He goes wide to Assou-Ekotto, who slips his man and hangs over a cross. Olsson gets in front of Dempsey to nod clear. Spurs sill pressing, but Walker's cross floats away on the far side.
Holtby delivers again, but he sees his delivery cleared at the front post once more. The clearance falls to Assou-Ekotto, who takes the ball on the volley. He makes decent contact, but his effort is always rising.
Dangerous pass from Yacob sells Ridgwell short. Lennon gets a toe to the ball, but knocks it out of play. Ridgewell just got his leg out of the way in time as he left it hanging for a moment. Lennon was forced to stay on his feet as a result. Spurs win another corner as West Brom squander possession.
Bale fires a cross into the box, but Dempsey can't make contact. A long ball forward gives Long no chance. Could be a long afternoon for him now. Spurs suddenly spring Holtby into space and he forces a low save from Foster.
Flag up against Long, who then hobbles around holding his knee. With Lukaku having just gone off, Clarke needs his striker to shake off that knock. He should be okay. Spurs moving forward again, with West Brom sitting deeper and deeper.
West Brom forced into a change, with Ridgewell sent on in place of Lukaku. He will now go to left-back, with Brunt moved back onto the wing.
Holtby tries again. Better delivery this time, but Long is able to nod clear from in front of his own goal. Dembele returns the ball to the penalty area, but Vertonghen can't get a head on it.

Lukaku unable to collect a high ball aimed towards him wide on the left flank. Vertonghen able to walk the ball clear for Spurs. Lukaku now operating in a wider role, leaving Long up front on his own.
Brunt has slotted in at left-back for the Baggies. Can they hang on with 10 men or will Spurs make their numerical advantage count? Surely the visitors need to start forcing the issue. They try to as Parker and Holtby look to combine, but the ball runs behind.
Moment of madness from the West Brom man. He had just got away with some poor defending and then lost his composure. West Brom down to 10 men. Popov can have no complaints.
Popov shown a straight red card. He spat in the direction of Walker as they exchanged words and he has been sent for an early bath.
Lukaku still looking to play on the last man. Long sends the ball over the top for him to chase. Up goes the flag again. He has got it right once, so Spurs need to be careful. At the other end Popov plays his way into trouble and is fortunate to win a goal kick.
Dembele bundled over by Morrison. Still yet to see a card this afternoon. Morrison gets a talking to. Popov then clears straight to Parker, but he is unable to gather the ball in.

Walker's delivery is seen away by McAuley and the ball hits the corner flag before going behind for another Spurs set-piece. The visitors do no better second time around.
Solid from Vertonghen as he prevents Lukaku from getting away again. Bale then leads Spurs forward. He drifts across the field, before cutting back onto his left foot. A 20-yard effort forces Foster to tip over the top.
Villas-Boas stood motionless on the sidelines. He needs to come up with a Plan B as Spurs haven't created much so far. The best of the chances have fallen the way of the hosts.
Lukaku running into open field once more. This time Lloris races off his line and gets to the ball first. He did not have to waste his energy as it happens, as the flag was up against Lukaku.
Dempsey dropping very deep to get on the ball. Parker then sent into space down the left wing. Spurs forced to move the ball across the field, with Bale and Lennon unable to sprinkle their magic on proceedings.
Dembele wins a free-kick off Brunt. Baggies skipper feels he was fouled first and tugs at the Spurs midfielder's shirt. Mark Clattenburg has a word with both men, but keeps his cards in his pocket. Handbags, nothing more.
Congested on midfield, but Morrison finds a route out. Lukaku is then able to spring the offside trap and race in on goal. He looks to strike early, but lashes high over the top from just inside the box.
Holtby involved, as he takes a tumble. Nothing given. He did go down rather theatrically. Spurs still on the ball, with Lennon drifting inside off the right flank in search of space.
Dempsey latches onto a throw from Bale, but finds himself stuck in a corner. He is able to find Bale again, but his cross is blocked by Reid. West Brom look to sprint clear with Lukaku, but Spurs get numbers back quickly.
Dempsey will now operate as a central striker for Spurs, with Holtby looking to offer support from deep. Big blow to Tottenham, who are already without Adebayor and have few other senior striking options.
Hearing that Defoe will not be able to continue. Spurs down to 10 men at the moment, as Dawson hacks a Brunt cross clear from in front of Lukaku. West Brom now looking to press high up the field. Yacob concedes yet another free-kick.
Popov gives the ball back to Tottenham, sort of. He lashes the ball as far as he can down field, with it eventually rolling out for a throw deep inside the Spurs half. West Brom opt against pushing up, allowing Spurs to make their way out from the back.
Holtby out getting himself warmed up as Defoe hobbles from the field. He doesn't appear to be in a good way. Villas-Boas off the bench to get an update from his medical team. Defoe to continue having treatment on the sidelines.
Villas-Boas is already short on striking options so will be hoping to see Defoe bounce back up. No signal to the bench as yet. Looking at the replays, Long didn't catch Defore, he got his boot stuck in the turf and appears to have turned his ankle.
Lennon looking lively again as he skips past two tackles. He is then caught by Popov. Another chance for Spurs to load the box. They go low into the feet of Defoe, and he is forced wide and away from goal. Defoe is caught by Long on the top of his foot and stays down. He will require treatment.
Bale goes for power over placement and skies his effort high into the stands. Spurs not making the most of set-piece opportunities in the final third so far.
Plenty of interest from Spurs in the set-piece. Six men around the ball as it is spotted. The free-kick is almost dead centre, a yard outside the box. Bale favourite to have a go.
Vertonghen takes a risk trying to run the ball out from the back. He is then caught by Yacob and can get back into position. Nice to see the Spurs man bounce back up and not make a meal of the challenge. Spurs make their way forward and Defoe is tripped by Yacob right on the edge of the box.
Dorrans is able to pick out Long with a floated ball down the middle. He looks to nod down for Lukaku, but was offside when he slipped in between Dawson and Vertonghen.
Long does really well to get up in front Dawson, he has a great spring. Nothing doing for the Baggies on this occasion, but Spurs can't piece anything together either.
Dempsey looks to unload from distance once more, but sees his shot blocked at source. Lennon and Walker combine down the Spurs right, with the latter forcing a corner off Popov. Walker's delivery drifts out of play before curling back in. Another wasted opportunity.
West Brom giving the ball away far too often at the moment. They are also dropping very deep. Spurs keeping hold of the ball, waiting for gaps to open up in front of them.
Space for Dempsey to turn and move into. He looks to pull the trigger from 25 yards, with Olsson backing off. He drags his effort badly and sends the ball well wide of the target.
Parker sends Bale surging forward. He gets to the dead-ball line, but once again he ends up on his right foot. He fires hopefully across the face of goal, but no-one has gambled in the six-yard box.
Dorrans wins a corner. Dembele ushered the ball out, not realising that a Spurs player had got the last touch. Brunt whips over the delivery, which Lloris does well to get a touch to on the stretch.
Olsson trots out from the back, feeding a pass into Dorrans. He looks to play a first-time ball into Long, but gets his angles all wrong and fires out of play.
Lukaku claims a throw, but the decision goes against him. Walker has no options from the throw, so has to go long. He only finds Popov. Reid then fires long towards Long, who can't beat Walker in the air.
Careless from Assou-Ekotto as he gives the ball away. West Brom can't get out of their own half as Dempsey blocks an attempted clearance from Reid. A long ball towards Defoe then finds the Spurs striker offside.
Yacob forces a pass into Dorrans. He threads a pass into the feet of Long, who is in on goal for the second time. This time he can get a shot away but, from a tight angle, drills straight at a sprawling Lloris.
Dembele skips around Yacob far too easily and is presented with a sight of goal. He skews his effort from 25 yards badly and sees the ball sail high, wide and not too handsome.
Olsson goes long, straight down the middle of the field. Lukaku is his target, but he stands no chance of getting to the ball as Dawson sees it safely through to Lloris.
Lennon causing problems again with his pace. Popov forced to concede a corner. Not the best of deliveries from Walker, which is cleared at the front post.
Terrible clearance from Dawson straight to Lukaku. He finds Morrison, who opts against a shot from distance. He looks to feed the ball wide to Long, but gets too much on the pass and sends it out of play. At the other end, Foster has to race out of his box to meet a long ball aimed towards Defoe.
Foster flaps at the delivery, but gets enough on it to put the ball behind for another corner. Walker takes from the Spurs right. Lukaku with a wild clearance inside his own box, before Dembele lets the Baggies off the hook by conceding a free-kick.

Parker felled by Long in midfield. Spurs go short from the free-kick, before giving the ball away. Once again Brunt and Long are unable to keep the ball on the field as they look to make headway down the West Brom left.
Defoe is looking a bit isolated up top for Spurs at times. Dempsey needs to stay up with him. Spurs have no long ball option with only Defoe to aim at. They can't go from back to front quickly.
Dembele finds Assou-Ekotto on the left for Spurs. Too much this time when the ball is fed back inside, with Parker caught in possession. Dorrans sets off down the right for West Brom, forcing Dembele to come over and cover.

Brunt delivers from the set-piece, and Lloris comes through the crowd to punch clear. Popov attempts to return the ball to the penalty area, but Dawson is able to nod clear. West Brom come again and Lukaku tests Lloris with a low drive from the edge of the box.
Long glances on to Reid, who is a long way forward down the West Brom right. Vertonghen comes across to put in a sliding challenge. Dorrans then collects a loose ball, turns into space and forces a corner off Assou-Ekotto.
Bale sees an attempted cross from the left deflect behind for the first corner of the game. The delivery has far too much on it and sails over the heads of those bunched in the box.
No way down the left wing for Assou-Ekotto, as Dorrans blocks his path. Long ball aimed forward to Lukaku. He wins a towering header, glancing into the path of Long. He is in on goal but takes a heavy touch as he tries to go around Lloris and the ball runs behind.

Morrison able to spin into space. He gets his head up and tries to send Brunt scampering down the left wing. He has gone too soon and the flag goes up.
Pre-match formalities underway, with kick-off almost upon us. Plenty of creative, forward-thinking talent on show today so here's hoping we are treated to an entertaining encounter.
Players are in the tunnel so we will have to leave the feedback there for now. There will be further opportunities to have your say at half-time and at the final whistle.
Iain Walker is another caught more in fantasy land than the real world. He says: "I'm hoping for a Lennon hat-trick today as he is in my Sky Sports dream team. Can see an easy win for Tottenham today 4-1."
Darren Yarrow thinks we will get a few goals. He says: "Purely for the Fantasy Footy... Defoe hat trick with assists from Bale, but realistically it will be 2-2 draw."
Simon - that's all he has given us - thinks Spurs should look to mix things up. He says: "Would love to see Bale play up front just behind Defoe! Arsenal did it with Henry! Sigurdsson or Dempsey could play on the left!"
James Phelps also sees Spurs filling their boots this afternoon. He says: "Spurs to win 3-1. Bale to get at least one of them. It's time for Spurs to push for a top 3 position."
Charlotte Moulton-Thomas thinks an away win is on the cards today, saying: "Spurs should win today, 3-0 - Bale, Bale, Defoe."
Aaron Annandale is an outsider hoping this game does his side a favour. He says: "As a Liverpool supporter I would like a draw today, however, I'd have to go 2-1 to Tottenham. Dempsey, Defoe and Lukaku."
Less than half an hour until kick-off now, keep your thoughts coming in to Chris.Burton@bskyb.com or @SkySportsChrisB.
Mike Wortho first in with a pre-match prediction. He says: "Hopefully West Brom smash Tottenham about 3-0 - Lukaku and Holtby the players to watch!"
No Peter Odemwingie for West Brom following his deadline day antics, but Steve Clarke has gone for two up top as Shane Long partners Romelu Lukaku. Spurs go with their tried and tested, with Lewis Holtby once again having to settle for a place on the bench.

Spurs, meanwhile, are setting their sights on a return to UEFA Champions League competition, and victory today would cement their top four standing and leave them just one point behind capital rivals Chelsea in third.
The Baggies have suffered four defeats in five to slip eight points adrift of the top four, and their priority now will be to hit the fabled 40-point mark as soon as possible - allowing them to relax a little.
