West Ham v Wigan preview

Wigan will go up against a West Ham side who are unbeaten at home this season in the third round of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday.

Latics looking to bounce back from weekend defeat

Wigan will go up against a West Ham side who are unbeaten at home this season when they travel to Upton Park in the third round of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night. The Hammers have made a bright start to their Premier League campaign following promotion last season to sit ninth in the early table with eight points from five games. Wigan's early form has been less impressive, with one win from their opening matches leaving them 15th in the standings, and Roberto Martinez's men will be keen to bounce back from their home defeat to Fulham at the weekend. Sam Allardyce's side have also won 11 of their last 13 home games in the League Cup and Wigan have lost seven out of their last ten. The Hammers disposed of League One Crewe in East London last time out in the cup, while the Latics strolled past Championship side Nottingham Forest 4-1 at the City Ground. Martinez's men will be bidding to repeat their strong League Cup run of the 2005-06 season, when they went all the way to the final and were runners-up to Manchester United.West Ham boss Allardyce has no fresh injury concerns ahead of the Upton Park clash. The Hammers are still without on-loan Liverpool striker Andy Carroll (hamstring) although he has started to train, while the only other absentee is Jack Collison (knee). Yossi Benayoun could be in line to make his first start since returning to the club on loan from Chelsea and Allardyce has hinted striker Modibo Maiga will also be named in his starting XI.Wigan manager Martinez has hinted he will give some of his younger players the chance to impress. Latics lost 2-1 at home to the Cottagers on Saturday but substitutes Callum McManaman and Ryo Miyaichi performed well and could be handed starts at Upton Park. The likes of David Jones, Ben Watson, Albert Crusat, Fraser Fyvie and Mauro Boselli may also be included while defender Antolin Alcaraz could return from a groin injury.
