FT: Holland 0 Spain 1

Full Time120+3 But it's too late! Spain complete the European Championship-World Cup double. Tears from members of both sides at the final whistle, while several in orange surround referee Howard Webb. But it's Spain who celebrate. They become the eighth team to win the World Cup, and Iniesta is the hero after firing the winner just four minutes from the end of extra-time.

120+3 Holland lump the ball forward for one last time.

Yellow Card120+2 Spain down to 10 men. Torres tries to chase down a long clearance and pulls up lame. Holland continue as they must.

Yellow Card120+1 Yellow card for Xavi for kicking the ball away after Holland are given a free-kick.

120+1 There are going to be two added minutes at tehe end of extra-time for Holland to find an unlikely equaliser and force the game into penalties.

120 Spain seconds away from being the first European team to win a World Cup away from home, and the first side to win the World Cup after losing their opening game.

119 Play finally restarts after all the acrimonious reaction to Spain's goal. Holland's players apparently felt Elia had been fouled somewhere in the build-up.

Yellow Card117 Marhijsen is booked for his protests, while Iniesta also goes into the book for taking his shirt off in celebration.

Goal116 GOAL - INIESTA! Spain have surely just won the World Cup! Fabregas plays in Iniesta, who takes a touch and then rifles the ball beyond Stekelenburg. The Dutch are furious about something in the build-up - or possibly even that corner that wasn't given a minute or two earlier.

115 Shocker from Webb. Sneijder's free-kick takes a huge deflection off the wall - and possibly gets a touch from a diving Casillas as well - but a goal-kick is given to Spain.

114 Elia runs into Puyol and wins a free-kick. If Holland are to win this, it's going to surely involve a set-piece of some kind. Could it be this free-kick? It's a long way out, but Sneijder fancies it.

113 Robben a bit of a lucky boy. He's flagged offside, stops playing, and then kicks the ball into the net. Could very easily have got a second booking there for kicking the ball away, but Webb shows leniency.

112 Stekelenburg punches the free-kick powerfully clear, and Navas blasts high over the bar from 25 yards.

Yellow Card111 Van der Wiel was one of few Dutch names not in Webb's notebook. He's in there now after a trip on Iniesta.

110 Xavi bends the free-kick over the crossbar. Ten minutes for Holland to hold on and take this to penalties - which is surely their best chance of victory now.

Red Card109 Holland are down to 10 men. Xavi's dink plays in Iniesta, and Heitinga pulls him back. Second yellow, and he's off. Spain's final to win now.

108 Sneijder sweeps the ball out to Elia on the left. He eases past Ramos but surprisingly fails to keep the ball in. Goal-kick for Spain.

107 Braafheid's first contribution is to get outrageously lucky, the ball bouncing off his head and through to Stekelenburg. He had no idea where that was, or where it was going.

106 Holland get us under way again.

Substitution105 Spain make a change ahead of the second period. No great surprise to see Torres come on, but it's David Villa who makes way. His Golden Boot chances are now gone, and we've had all six substitutions.

Half Time105+1 Half-time in extra-time. Penalty kicks are just 15 minutes away. Spain certainly went for it in that opening period. They won't want this to go to the lottery of the shootout. That said, they know the danger of leaving the back door open with the likes of Robben, van Persie and Sneijder around.

Substitution105 Van Bronckhorst's last game of professional football comes to an end as he makes way for Edson Braafheid. But van Bronckhorst might just have one more job to do tonight...

105 First real chance for Elia to run at the Spain defence, but Ramos and Navas double up to deny him.

104 The Spain subs have certainly had more impact than Holland's thus far. Great direct run from Fabregas takes him to the edge of the Holland box, but he can't find the finish to match the build-up.

103 Free-kick for Spain in midfield. They play it short, as is their wont.

102 The corner is dealt with by the Holland backline.

101 Spain getting closer and closer here. Navas the latest to go close after being played in by Villa. His shot is deflected by van Bronckhorst, wrong-footing Stekelenburg who is no more than a spectator as he watches - with some relief - the ball hit the side-netting.

Substitution100 Attacking move from Holland: Rafael van der Vaart on for De Jong.

99 Iniesta makes the wrong decision in the Holland box and wastes another marvellous chance for Spain. He has Villa to the left and Navas to the right but tries to go alone and is superbly tackled by van Bronckhorst. The ball ricochets behind off Iniesta, so Spain will not even have a corner.

98 Xavi's outswinger is met by Puyol, but he can't get any purchase on his header which slides away for a goal-kick.

97 Van Bronckhorst easily outjumps Villa to head behind for a corner.

96 Great corner, and Casillas crashes into Fabregas trying to come and deal with it. Mathijsen arrives but heads over the bar. Another glorious opportunity to break the deadlock.

95 Game opening up now. Great chance for Spain as Iniesta plays Fabregas in, but his shot is blocked by the legs of Stekelenburg. Hollland break through Robben down the right and win a corner.

94 Iniesta picks up the ball from Navas and tries to play in Villa, but he'd checked his run to avoid going offside and couldn't restart it fast enough. Stekelenburg gathers.

93 The corner comes to nothing, but Spain are still fuming. Fabregas reckons he was fouled in the build-up, Xavi wanted the penalty. Fabregas has the stronger case, but neither is compelling.

92 Xavi wants a penalty after he kicks Heitinga's leg in attempting to get a shot on goal. He'll have to settle for a corner.

91 Robben still flying down the right for Holland, but he's got three blue shirts for company and can't get past all three of them.

91 Spain get extra-time under way.

Full Time90+4 Casillas takes the goal-kick, and the whistle blows. Another 30 minutes to settle this, or we've got back-to-back World Cup finals settled by spot-kick drama. The second half was far better than the first. Robben (twice), Villa and Ramos all had glorious chances to become heroes.

90+3 Spain lose possession, and Sneijder has an optimistic attempt at glory from inside his own half. The football equivalent of a basketball 'buzzer-beater'. We're going into extra-time, folks.

90+3 Navas wanders into midfield and wins a free-kick for Spain. Taken quickly.

90+2 Spain have the possession, but they're being kept at safe range by Holland.

90+1 There will be a minimum of three added minutes at the end of the 90 in the World Cup final. We're into the first of them.

90 Robben links up well with Sneijder, who slides the ball in for van Persie but the Arsenal man had strayed a yard offside. He rounds Casillas and hits the ball against the post before being called back. If we're to have a winner before extra-time, it's going to come in added time at the end of 90 minutes.

89 Robben tries and fails to keep the ball in on the right for Holland, but they soon have possession again.

88 Capdevila whips a cross in from the left but Mathijsen - a rock for the Dutch tonight - gets there first and clears.

87 Villa wins a free-kick on halfway. Iniesta takes it quickly.

Substitution86 Van Persie wins a free-kick for Holland just as his Arsenal team-mate Fabregas replaces Alonso.

85 Spain are preparing to bring Cesc Fabregas on. He's getting some last-minute instructions from Spain's assistant coach. Ann should be pleased, anyway.

Yellow Card84 Robben sprints 40 yards to remonstrate with Webb about Puyol's attempts to haul him down, and earns a yellow card for his trouble. He was certainly held back by the experienced Spain defender.

83 Van Persie's flick on leaves Puyol struggling. Robben easily outstrips the Barcelona man, who tries to haul the Dutchman down. Had he succeeded, it would've been a certain red card. But Robben, to his credit, stays on his feet to try and score, but Casillas comes out bravely to smother well at Robben's feet.

82 Iniesta gets away from Heitinga all too easily and bursts into the Dutch box. But Sneijder is back to help out his defenders and makes a perfectly timed tackle to deny the Barcelona man. Spain knocking on the door.

81 We're into the last 10 minutes. Spain look the likelier.

80 The corner's cleared, and when it's worked back to Xavi he overhits his cross. Not one of his best. Holland holding on a bit at the moment, though.

79 Spain win another corner on the right. Navas has added another dimension to Spain since coming off the bench. Natural width.

78 Handbags. Van Bommel fouls Iniesta, who takes a bit of revenge by tripping his assailant. All a bit childish, and Webb contents himself with strong words and no cards this time.

77 Another glorious chance for Spain. Ramos times his run perfectly to meet Xavi's corner unmarked seven yards from goal, but he plants his header over the bar. Really should have scored.

77 Villa just getting a couple of sights of goal now. Lovely interplay with Iniesta gets him in, but his shot is deflected wide.

76 Alonso's reverse ball sets Navas away on the right. His deep cross finds Villa, but he can't control the volley and slices it into the stands. Would've been special.

75 Sneijder gets his second stern talking to from Webb. He's one of the Dutch players who hasn't yet been booked.

75 There's only been one goalless draw in World Cup final history, between Italy and Brazil in 1994. We're 15 minutes away from the second.

74 Villa tries to curl one but sets it off far too wide of the far post. Never threatens to turn enough to trouble Stekelenburg.

73 They don't do it. Spain back in possession, and Heitinga gives away a soft free-kick after treading on Iniesta's toes. Dangerous position 25 yards from goal and left of centre.

73 Capdevila can't keep the ball in play on the left, and Holland have a throw and the chance to clear their lines.

72 Bit more oomph to the game now. It's not exactly stretched, but holes are just starting to appear.

71 Eljero Elia replaces Kuyt as Holland make their first change. Navas has certainly made a difference for Spain since coming off the bench, and Elia is similarly blessed in the pace department.

70 The corner is cleared, and a follow-up shot from Alonso is easy for the keeper. Spain's turn to wonder 'what if?'

70 Spain's clearest chance of the night. Navas shows van Bronckhorst a clean pair of heels before firing the ball across goal. Heitinga makes a mess of it, allowing the ball to break for Villa just three yards from goal. But Heitinga then makes amends with an almost impossible block to prevent Villa opening the scoring.

69 Spain go long, but Mathijsen stands up to Villa and emerges with the ball.

68 Kuyt tries to barrel through the Spain defence down the left-hand side but is eventually dispossessed by Puyol.

68 Sneijder whips the ball into the area, but Kuyt is punished for a tug on a Spanish shirt.

Yellow Card67 An eighth yellow card of the night, and a third for Spain as Capdevila pays the price for a cynical clip of van Persie's ankles as the Arsenal man was poised to burst clear down the right.

66 Xavi and Iniesta almost combine to pick a path through an impressive Holland backline, but an orange-socked leg just gets a touch at the vital moment, and Stekelenburg prevents the corner.

65 Great pressing from the Dutch forces Spain to go all the way back from the edge of the Holland area to halfway. The fans in orange applaud those efforts heartily.

64 Kuyt gives the ball away to Ramos, but then makes a sliding interception to atone for the error.

63 The corner comes to nothing as the Dutch are left to think on what might have been.

62 Best chance of the night! Sneijder's pinpoint pass catches the Spain defence square and leaves Robben clean through on Casillas' goal. He waits and waits for Casillas to commit himself before trying to clip it over the keeper, but the Real Madrid man gets the end of his boot on the ball to divert it wide. What a key moment that could prove to be.

61 Pique needs treatment after contesting a high ball with Kuyt. Looks okay, though.

Substitution60 First change of the ngiht as Jesus Navas replaces Pedro, who has faded rather after a really bright opening.

60 Capdevila twists and turns his way past van der Wiel, but his cross is headed clear by Mathijsen.

59 Sneijder's ball in from the right is a good one, but Heitinga is penalised for a foul on Ramos as they battle for the ball in the Spain box.

58 Holland win a free-kick on the right as Iniesta brings down Sneijder. Fouls stacking up here. No booking this time, though.

Yellow Card56 Ramos makes a fine tackle to halt a Holland attack, and immediately turns defence into attack by setting Villa away on the left. Villa's caught late by Heitinga. Webb initially plays an advantage, but Villa has stayed down and the ball is put out of play by Alonso so he can receive treatment. Webb goes back to book Heitinga. Five bookings for Holland players now.

55 Xavi goes for goal, but can only flick the side-netting. Stekelenburg had it covered, I think, and watched it sail wide.

Yellow Card54 Ramos tries to play a one-two with Pedro but his run is illegally checked by van Bronckhorst. Another name in Webb's notebook.

54 Holland string a few passes together in Spain territory. That's been a rarity tonight. Sneijder gets some time on the ball for just about the first time tonight.

53 Villa looks to have the beating of Mathijsen, but he gets back to get a foot in, and then manages to prevent a corner and get the ball back to his keeper. Good defending.

52 Trademark Robben as he cuts in from the right and fires a shot goalwards, but Casillas makes a comfortable save down to his left. Probably going wide anyway.

51 Puyol hurried into putting the ball out of play. Holland throw on the right-hand side.

49 Van Persie's deft flick sets van der Wiel away down the right. He whips in a low cross but there's no-one there to take advantage. Casillas touches the ball with his fingertip as it goes past him, but a goal-kick is given.

48 Chance! Puyol's near-post flick finds Capdevila unmarked six yards from goal, but he completely misses his kick and the ball trundles harmlessly out of play.

47 Iniesta's neat touch almost puts Xavi through, but Mathijsen gets a foot in. Corner to Spain who have started this half as they did the first - right on the front foot.

46 Spain get the second half under way.

Feedback Lee's back: "I think Howard Webb has done a good job overall. Yes maybe he could've shown a red for the kick in the chest. But it would've ruined the flow of the game. Who wants to see 10 vs 11? Not me anyway." Fair point, and Webb's desire to keep all 22 men on the field is admirable. But there have to be limits. It wouldn't have been Webb who ruined the flow of the game; it would've been De Jong.

Sky Bet Spain out to 6/5 from evens in the 90 minutes market at Sky Bet. Holland 7/2 and the draw now just 11/8. It's 9/4 it stays goalless for the next 45 minutes.

Feedback Liam's back with his first-half analysis: "Well the first half belongs to Spain, but I do think the score reflects the play in the first half, going back to earlier I really don't care who finishes top scorer I just want, and think, that Holland will win this some how, judging by the way Spain have been playing and the way Holland have been playing I think Holland may look to win this game in extra time or on penalties." Holland certainly came into the game more and more as the half went on. But the big problem for Holland will be keeping 11 men on the park. Can't think of a harder team to take on with 10 than pass-masters Spain. Mails to Dave.Tickner@bskyb.com

Half Time45+3 And there is the half-time whistle. Five bookings, few chances, and the big talking point undoubtedly De Jong getting away with just a booking for a horror challenge on Alonso that really should have seen Webb produce red.

45+2 The corner comes to nothing and Spain clear. De Jong wins a free-kick on halfway, and that is likely to be that for the opening period.

45+1 Puyol has to head clear as the Spain defence just looks a tad stretched for the first time, and Robben then cuts in from the left and fires in a shot that Casillas has to turn behind for a corner.

45+1 There will be two added minutes at the end of an intriguing, absorbing if not exactly earth-shattering first half.

45 Robben wins a free-kick just inside Spain's half. Might be the last chance of the half, although the fourth official has just appeared with '2' on his board.

44 Lovely turn from Pedro, but his attempt to slide in Ramos is intercepted. Almost in there.

43 Alonso goes for goal from just outside the centre-circle and fires the ball well wide of the target. File that one under 'Optimistic'.

42 Sneijder and Busquets both go for a loose ball, and the Dutchman catches his opponent on the thigh. Not the best tackle in the world, but he might have done himself more damage. Both men back on their feet now, and Webb has a word but no more with Sneijder.

40 Xavi swings the free-kick into the danger area, and Heitinga just beats Puyol to it. Great delivery again from Xavi, but well defended.

39 Xavi's quick feet take the ball away from van Bommel, who bundles the Spain midfielder over. He's got to be careful...

38 Pedro bursts down the middle for Spain and drags a 25-yarder wide of the target.

37 A lovely corner routine from Holland, but it falls down for the simple reason that Mathijsen is the man on the end of it. Sneijder cuts the corner back to van Bommel 20 yards from goal, and he turns the ball into the path of Mathijsen inside the area. He completely misses his kick.

37 Robben darts through two chalenges but can't beat Puyol. Sneijder picks up the baton and wins a corner off Busquets.

35 Would've been interesting if that had gone in. Presumably Holland would've let Spain have an equaliser. Sneijder would presumably have insisted that Villa not score it.

34 Bizarre moment here. Holland try to return the ball to Casillas, but he completely misjudges its flight and ends up tipping it round the post for a corner. In a fine sporting gesture, van Persie rolls the corner straight to the keeper. No dramas this time.

33 Another good take from Casillas, but this time he takes out team-mate Puyol as well. He bowls the ball out so Puyol can receive treatment.

33 Busquets comes across and checks Robben's run. Free-kick Holland on halfway.

32 Lovely stuff from Spain again, but Holland hold firm and manage to break up play.

31 Iniesta's pass is just behind Pedro, who can only stick a boot on the ball. That allows Robben to get a foot in and break up the attack.

29 The whole Spanish bench was up after that De Jong challenge. The players on the pitch weren't best impressed either. Massive moment in the game.

Yellow Card28 De Jong is a lucky, lucky boy to escape with only a booking here after administering a karate-style kick to Xabi Alonso's ribcage as they compete for a bouncing ball. Both feet off the ground, one of them buried in an opponent's chest. Could have had no complaints if Webb had gone for the red card there.

27 Van Bommel tries to spread the play to Robben on the right, but his pass bounces up and over his team-mate's head.

26 Kuyt wins a throw for Holland after another Spanish move breaks down.

25 More nice possession footy from the Spanish, and frustration eventually takes over as Sneijder pulls Busquets back on halfway. Free-kick Spain.

24 Great athletic take from Casillas as Sneijder whips the free-kick towards the back post. Casillas looks for the long early clearance for Villa, but overcooks it. Route one from Spain there. Long-ball team.

Yellow Card23 And now it's 2-2 in bookings. Mounting up here. Kuyt tries to skip away from Ramos, who trips him. Kuyt miraculously gets back to his feet and keeps the ball in, and is a touch annoyed not to get an advantage.

Yellow Card22 Awful challenge from van Bommel, straight through the back of Iniesta. No choice for Webb but to issue his third booking of the night.

21 Van Persie flagged offside.

21 Ramos heads the corner clear. Throw in to be taken by van Bronckhorst.

21 Robben wins a corner after skipping past Alonso, who gets back to make a tackle as the Bayern Munich man tries to cut inside Capdevila.

20 Sneijder can't find van Persie's run on the left, but it's better from the Dutch.

19 Bit of possession at the back for Holland. Just starting to settle into their work here.

18 The free-kick's almost 40 yards out, but Sneijder fizzes it goalwards. Safely held by Casillas, who will have been grateful the ball arrived on the full rather than bouncing in front of him.

Yellow Card16 It's 1-1 in bookings now as Puyol jumps into a tackle from behind on Robben. He claims to have got the ball as Webb reaches for his pocket. He didn't.

Yellow Card15 Frustration mounting for Holland here, and van Persie's name is the first taken by Howard Webb after his second late tackle of the night. Capdevila on the wrong end this time, and van Persie can have no complaints.

14 A decent spell of possession at the back for Holland, but it all looks rather more nervy and hesitant from the men in orange.

13 A 70-second spell of effortless Spain possession ends with Mark van Bommel's uncompromising foul on Puyol. Again, that is something we're likely to see repeated.

12 A deep Alonso cross finds Villa beyond the back post, but his first-time volley finds only the side-netting.

11 Ramos highly involved in the early stages here. He bursts into the Holland box after being picked out by Iniesta and gets past Kuyt all too easily. He fires the ball across goal, and Johnny Heitinga does well to divert it up and over the crossbar to safety. All Spain at the moment. They have a corner.

10 De Jong's heavy touch on halfway gives Spain a throw. Holland yet to get a hold on the game.

9 Capdevila breaks from the back and almost slides in Villa. But Mathijsen reads the danger and nips in to make the interception. Pedro and Iniesta swap flanks. The first of many such switches, you suspect.

8 Busquets miscontrols the ball in a dangerous area, allowing Dirk Kuyt a speculative shot on Iker Casillas' goal. No real venom behind the shot, and the Real Madrid keeper gathers easily.

7 Slightly nervy start from the Dutch. They've not really had much time on the Jabulani so far tonight.

6 Pedro playing from the right for Spain tonight, with Iniesta starting out on the left.

5 First save of the night, and it's a fine one from Maarten Stekelenburg to beat away Ramos' goalbound header as Xavi swings in a teasing free-kick from the right.

4 Another Spain free-kick. Van Bronckhorst falls for Ramos' trick and trips the marauding Spain full-back.

4 Sergio Ramos tries to make progress down the Spanish right, but Joris Mathijsen gets across to clear for a throw.

3 Pedro tries a clever ball through for Villa, but the offside flag halts his progress. Close call but the right one.

2 No great surprise, but it's Spain with the early possession here.

2 Xavi makes his first pass of the night. There will be many, many more: he's averaged a pass every 55 seconds in this tournament. I do need to get out more.

1 First free-kick of the night is given against Robin van Persie for a kick on Sergio Busquets.

1 Holland get us under way in Johannesburg.

Apparently there's an English ref tonight. Thought someone would've mentioned it.

Feedback The teams are being presented to the dignitaries ahead of the anthems. Meanwhile, Liam's hoping for a pretty specific outcome tonight: "I have David Villa to finish the top scorer but I have Holland to win the World Cup. My prediction for the game is for Holland to 2-1 with Villa to score Spain's goal and Robben and Van Persie to score for Holland. I am praying that the right result will come in for me."

Sky Bet Billy from Basingstoke is half English, half Portugues and he loves the Dutch. He's backing them to win 3-2 after extra-time. Sounds a good game that.

The teams are lining up in the tunnel. Early points to the Dutch for me: their tracky tops are vastly superior.

Fabio Cannavaro is out on the pitch with the World Cup trophy, prompting a fresh blast of noise from the many, many vuvuzelas inside Soccer City.

Feedback Geraint says: "Not surprised Torres has been left out. I don't think he is ready mentally and would struggle. He could come on if it remains tight at the end. A great game for the neutral and I fancy Holland to win this one 2-1." Holland 2 Spain 1 certainly seems to be the popular view tonight.

Sky Bet Betting update from Sky Bet: plenty of support for both Holland (11/4) and Spain (evens), but no-one wants the draw at 9/4. In other markets the majority are going against the recent trend of low-scoring finals and the popular options in correct score have been Spain or Holland to win 3-2 at 40-1 and 50-1 respectively. The normal candidates are best backed in the first goalscorer market with Villa (7/2) and Alonso (18/1) the value, though Pedro might be interesting at 8/1. Get over to www.skybet.com for a full range of in-play markets.

Feedback Always great to get a cheery email from Ann in Hawaii. Aloha, Ann! Here's her view on tonight's match: "The whole world is excited about watching this game. Good luck to our English team: Howard Webb and team! I am going for a Holland win 2-1. As an Arsenal fan supporting RVP hoping he may score today and remain fit for the next Premier League season. And what about Fabregas? Don't care for him making public his desire to return to Barcelona!! Enjoy and whoever wins, at least it is a European team!". Indeed - and the first ever European 'away' win at a World Cup as well.

Feedback Finally a Spain backer. Says Lee: "I think Spain will win 2-1, possibly 3-1 to be honest. Though I would prefer to see extra time - makes it more exciting. And could you say hi to Claire in your commentary please?" Hi to Claire. There you go. You're lucky - we don't normally do requests. And normally extra-time is the curse of the clockwatcher, but I must admit I don't think I'd mind tonight.

Feedback Good start for the Dutch on the emails. Keiran Lawler and Daniel Roberts both predict a bright future for the Oranje and a 2-1 win.

Feedback We can't be the only ones excited about this one. Send us your thoughts, predictions, rantings and ravings to Dave.Tickner@bskyb.com

Certainly no doubt that we've got two in-form sides in the World Cup showpiece: Spain have won 50 of their last 54 games, Holland are unbeaten in 25 and have won every match in this World Cup campaign including qualifiers.

Holland: Stekelenburg, van der Wiel, Heitinga, Mathijsen, van Bronckhorst, van Bommel, De Jong, Robben, Sneijder, Kuyt, van Persie.

Spain: Casillas, Pique, Puyol, Ramos, Capdevila, Alonso, Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta, Pedro, Villa.

The team news is in, and the big but unsurprising news is that Fernando Torres is once again on the bench for Spain.
