The 32-year-old AC Milan star has become an integral part of the Italian national side since making his debut in 2000 and has established himself as one of the finest defensive midfielders around.

With two Champions League medals and a World Cup to his name, Gattuso has come a long way since his early days at Rangers.

Following a less than spectacular 40 games in Glasgow, Gattuso moved on to Salernitana before a surprise £8million move to the Rossoneri in 1999 which sparked his career into life.

Since then he has been consistently linked with top clubs across Europe, including Manchester United and Chelsea, due to his excellent performances at the heart of the Milan midfield.

Gattuso may not be a typical Italian midfielder in that his game is based on running, tackling and determination rather than skill and technique, but if Italy are to have a successful World Cup, they will need 'Ringhio' to be at the top of his game.

The gutsy midfielder played four times during Italy's successful qualifying campaign and is certain to push for a starting berth this summer.
