A former winner of the Fifa World Player of the Year award, Kaka will be heading into the World Cup in the unusual position of seeing his star somewhat on the wane.

Briefly the world's most expensive player when he joined Real Madrid from AC Milan last summer, Kaka has struggled to get anywhere near his best form in Spain, with injuries hampering his time at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Kaka, therefore, will be hoping that the return to the international stage will provide him with the opportunity to demonstrate why he is still one of the most feared, and respected, players in the game.

He made just a solitary appearance en route to Brazil's 2002 World Cup success, but started all five games at the 2006 tournament in Germany.

The 27-year-old scored in the 2005 Confederations Cup final and was player of the tournament in the same competition in South Africa last summer.

His move to Real, though, saw Kaka outshone by the man who usurped him as the world's costliest player - Cristiano Ronaldo - as the club finished runners-up to Barcelona in La Liga.

A winner of multiple club and individual honours, a rejuvenated Kaka will keep any defence on the back foot and he will be the focal point for Brazil's creative spark in the finals.
