A surprise call-up in 2006, Wilkshire shone in Germany and has not looked back.

Equally comfortable in defence or midfield, Wilkshire has settled into a right wing-back role with Australia. The Socceroos' 4-2-3-1 formation places plenty of attacking onus on the full-backs, and Wilkshire appears to relish the added responsibility.

After selecting him for the 2006 squad, then Australia boss Guus Hiddink hailed Wilkshire as a "modern player" due to his mobility, pace and technical ability.

Having started his English career at Middlesbrough, Wilkshire established himself at Bristol City before - on the advice of Hiddink - heading to Holland and FC Twente.

He quickly became a first-team fixture there before joining Russian side Dynamo Moscow where he has been employed primarily in central midfield.

But it's as an attacking right-back that he has made his mark in international football.
