Blackburn enforcer who forms half of Australia's defensive-oriented central midfield alongside Jason Culina.

Grella has struck up a fine rapport with Jason Culina in front of Lucas Neill and Craig Moore, allowing the likes of Tim Cahill and Harry Kewell freedom to focus on the attacking side of the game.

Grella's high workrate and ability to break down opposition attacks in midfield have made him a crucial part of the Australia side under Pim Verbeek's more defence-minded approach.

Injuries have hampered him over the last couple of seasons but, if fit, he will be among the first names on the Socceroo team sheet.

Now performing solidly in the Premier League with Blackburn, Grella learned the defensive midfielder's art in five years in Serie A with Parma and Torino.
