The Swiss golden boy is one of the most consistent strikers in Europe, and his country's all-time leading goalscorer.

He has made over 70 appearances for Switzerland, scoring 40 goals, and passed Kubilay Turkyilmaz and Max Abbegglen's record of 34 international strikes with a brace against Liechtenstein in 2008.

He has led the line for his country for almost a decade and is a survivor from their European Championship campaigns of 2004 and 2008 and also their 2006 World Cup endeavours.

His career began slowly when he failed to shine at FC Basel or FC Thun, but he began to find the target with unerring regularity while at Lucerne and continued to shine during a successful three-year spell with Servette.

Frei then moved on to French side Rennes in 2003 and was the top scorer in Ligue 1 during the 2004/05 campaign.

Having regularly broken the 20-goal mark during three seasons in France, Borussia Dortmund then splashed the cash to take him to Germany.

His fine form in front of goal continued in the Bundesliga and he averaged almost a goal every other game during his time in Dortmund.

Frei headed home to FC Basel in the summer of 2009 and weighed in heavily as they pipped Young Boys to the league title on a dramatic final day.
