Former Chelsea winger Gronkjaer could give Denmark options up front - as long as he can stay fit.
The 32-year-old's ability to kick with both feet means he can play on both the right or left wing, while he can also slot into the hole as a supporting striker.
While the winger is known for his pace, his career has also been blighted by injury, including during his time at Stamford Bridge as well as at current club Copenhagen.
He will bring plenty of experience to the squad, with his club career also including stints at Ajax, Birmingham City, Atletico Madrid and Stuttgart.
Gronkjaer can also boast previous tournament experience, featuring in all four of Denmark's games in the 2002 World Cup, as well as representing his country at two European championships.
But he could find he is only an impact player in South Africa as Denmark boss Morten Olsen only used the veteran three times during the qualification campaign, all from the bench.
