Veteran goalkeeper Sorensen takes his place at the World Cup after winning his race against time to be fit following a dislocated elbow.
The Stoke goalkeeper suffered the injury in the 7-0 loss at Chelsea in April after Salomon Kalou went in two-footed to score his side's second goal.
But, on a more positive note, he did not require an operation and having returned to fitness, Sorensen will provide a wealth of experience - and penalty-saving expertise - for Denmark at the back.
The 33-year-old veteran has won more than 80 caps since making his debut in November 1999, representing his country in the 2002 World Cup and 2004 European Championship.
He shared the No 1 jersey with Stephen Andersen during the Danes' successful qualifying campaign for this tournament.
Should Denmark be involved in penalty shoot-outs, Sorensen could prove the difference as he is renowned for saving spot-kicks.
This was shown when he saved five out of six for club and country, including in three successive Premier League games against Portsmouth, Arsenal and Wigan before Christmas.
