Contreras is an experienced international who plays in defence for both country and his club PAOK.
The 31-year-old prefers to operate at centre-back but is also capable of playing at right-back.
He has almost reached 50 caps for his nation, having returned to the international fold after he and five team-mates were accused of having got drunk and thrown food around a hotel during the 2007 Copa America.
Contreras has put said incident behind him and made five appearances during World Cup qualification.
He is a committed stopper who is known for his influence on the pitch and dogged nature.
