Cherundolo is one of only a handful of USA internationals never to have played in MLS.
The experienced defender has spent his entire career in German football playing for Hannover.
Injury has often been one of Cherundolo's biggest enemies and he was ruled out of both the 2002 World Cup finals and the 2009 Confederations Cup.
However, he was fit for the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup and captained his country during the tournament.
Cherundolo has over half-a-century of caps to his name and has scored twice, against Germany and South Africa in 2006 and 2007 respectively.
The defender nearly joined Bolton Wanderers in 2005, however, he rejected the chance to move to England as he preferred to stay in Germany.
The 31-year-old has made nearly 300 appearances during his tenure with Hannover and operates as a right-back.
