The recently-crowned New Zealand Championship Player of the Year, Clapham is a rookie in the All Whites squad who will hope to establish himself during the tournament.

Clapham was uncapped when coach Ricki Herbert picked his provisional squad for South Africa, but he impressed enough in a training camp to win his place in the final selection. Indeed he won individual praise from his boss, who remarked how comfortably Clapham had settled into the set-up.

A midfielder keen to get his name on the scoresheet, Clapham does have some international experience, having represented his country at the Under-20 World Cup in 2007.

The 23-year-old began his career with a scholarship at Saint Francis University in the USA, and also spent time playing for the University of Louisville.

After a spell in Australia, he signed for current club Canterbury United in his homeland at the start of the 2009/10 season.
