WCQ Group 4 round-up

Klose: Celebrates

Germany booked their place at the World Cup finals after a 1-0 win over Russia in Moscow.

Russia needed to beat Germany in order to put themselves in pole position for qualification from Group Four.

But it was not to be as Joachim Low's men did what was needed of them in the Russian capital.

Despite playing on the Luzniki Stadium's artificial pitch, Germany played well and they grabbed the crucial goal on 34 minutes.

Great work from Mesut Ozil and Lukas Podolski set up Miroslav Klose, who bundled the ball home from eight yards.

Germany had to sustain some major pressure late on, and even had Jerome Boateng sent-off with 20 minutes left, but they managed to hang on and take the three points which sends them to South Africa.

Pride was on the agenda Rheinpark Stadium as Azerbaijan stole a march on Liechtenstein to avoid finishing bottom of the group with a 2-0 success.

Striker Vagif Javadov gave the visitors a 55th minute lead before Elvin Mammadov added another goal eight minutes from time as the minnows picked up their first win of the campaign.

Earlier in the day Finland made sure of third spot after they beat Wales 2-1.
