Team Teaser - Non internationals

Welcome to skysports.com's Team Teaser. This is the game where you have the chance to help us fill in the missing blanks.

We provide you with a theme and you have to compile together a starting XI based on that theme. If you have a Team Teaser idea you would like running feel free to drop me an e-mail at james.pearson@bskyb.com with words 'team teaser' in the headline. Please e-mail with ideas only, not answers.

For example if the theme was East Enders then an ideal defender would be 'Terry Butcher' as in 'Pat Butcher' and so on until the line-up is complete!

Our new theme is NON INTERNATIONALS. Players who have surprisingly never played for their respective countries when you feel they should have. If you have any ideas for a future Team Teaser feel free to drop me an e-mail.

We'll start with a nice easy one with Steve Bruce in defence. Dermot Boylan, Ryan Skinner, Mike Bradley and Jamie Baker all named the ex-Manchester United defender. Here are just a few of your comments: 'Captain of the English champions, tough as teak and scored the odd (very important!) goal but never got a look in at international level'. 'Surprisingly never played for England despite captaining Man Utd for years and winning countless trophies'. 'He was overlooked for England by Bobby Robson early on, Graham Taylor and Terry Venables!'

Lettie Hunting was surprised ex-Coventry City keeper Steve Ogrizovic was never capped by England. "He was a top keeper for Coventry City, helping them on their way to glory in the 1987 FA cup and playing consistently for 16 years but was never capped by England," read their e-mail entry.

There is little doubt Paolo Di Canio was a gifted player. The passionate Italian had the fire in his belly to inspire any team and the skills to turn a match in an instant. However, he never played for the Azzurri. Conor Byrne wrote: "Di Canio played in England, Scotland and Italy and was a legend where ever he went but he never got an international cap for Italy."

On the right-hand side of midfielder we've got Everton playmaker Mikel Arteta. The talented Spaniard won 12 Under-21 caps for his country, but has surprisingly never won an international cap. Scotty Davis was left in little doubt as whether he should make the team stating: "Mikel Arteta, no question."

Joining Di Canio up front is former Everton, Nottingham Forest and Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell. Campbell holds the distinction of scoring the most Premier League goals for an English player without receiving an international call-up. He won four Under-21 caps and played for England B, but never won a full cap. Glen Maxwell and Thomas Lightfoot put his name forward.

Slotting in at left-back we have West Ham legend Julian Dicks. The no-nonsense defender made his name at Upton Park before joined Liverpool for a year. In two spells at West Ham, he had played 315 competitive games and scored 64 goals, many of them penalties, however, an international call-up eluded him. He won two caps for England's B side. Again credit goes to Glen Maxwell for the tip.

Former Manchester City ace Gary Owen comes into midfield. The now 51-year-old was highly rated at City but failed to progress beyond the England Under-21s and England B team. Dermot Boylan wrote: "Gary Owen won over 20 U-21 caps as well as making England B but never made the step up. He did, however, feature in the last Manchester City team to win a major prize, the League Cup in 1976."

Former Aston Villa ace Dennis Mortimer has often been described as 'the best player never to get an England cap'. John Greenfield wrote to us saying: "Despite leading Aston Villa to English league champions and European champions Dennis Mortimer never won an England cap!"

Despite playing for the likes of Bolton, Celtic, Everton and Sunderland Alan Stubbs never represented his country. Mike Bradley wrote: "The perfect partner for Steve Bruce at the back is Alan Stubbs. A legend with Derby, Celtic and Everton but has only the one England 'B' cap to his name."
