Laois set up a Leinster Championship quarter-final with Dublin after an impressive 0-21 to 1-11 victory over Wicklow in Aughrim.
Ross Munnelly and Donie Kingston were in free-scoring form for the O’Moore County, the full-forward duo finishing with tallies of nine and six points respectively.
The sides were level at half-time – 1-5 to 0-8 – thanks to Paul Cunningham’s goal but Laois pulled clear in the second half.
After falling behind early on, Wicklow hit four unanswered points to lead on 20 minutes, but Laois replied with four successive scores of their own from Munnelly (2), Darren Strong and a Kingston free.
John O’Loughlin extended Laois’ lead to three on the half hour but Wicklow drew level one minute later when Cunningham rifled a shot past Graham Brody to send the sides in level at the change of ends.
A spectator fell ill during the interval, causing a delay to the start of the second half. Once play got underway the teams exchanged scores as the game remained in the melting pot.
With the match tied at 1-7 to 0-10, Laois shifted up a gear. Scores from O’Loughlin, Munnelly (2), Kingston (2) and Theo Smith moved them five points in front and they never looked back.
Leighton Glynn cut the deficit to four but the momentum was with Laois, who had extended their lead to seven points by the final whistle.
The reward for Tomas O’Flatharta’s side is a meeting with defending Leinster and All-Ireland champions Dublin in Croke Park on June 8.
