Tyrone produced a devastating second-half performance to crush Louth by 2-21 to 0-10 in their All-Ireland SFC qualifier at Healy Park.
The Red Hands led by just two points at half time but they blew their opponents away after the restart, with Emmett McKenna and Stephen O’Neill both netting as they hit an unanswered 2-7.
Darren McCurry top-scored for Mickey Harte’s side with six points, three coming from placed balls, while Conor McAliskey chipped in with four points from play.
Tyrone hadn’t lost to Louth in three previous meetings in the qualifiers and they got off to a good start at Omagh with three points from McCurry and a Sean Cavanagh free.
Louth replied with scores from Andy McDonnell and teenager Ryan Burns but a brace from McAliskey and McCurry free gave Tyrone a five-point lead after 20 minutes.
Wee County manager Aidan O’Rourke reacted by introducing Conor Grimes and he made an immediate impact as Louth hit four unanswered points with Burns, Brian White, Grimes and McDonnell all on target.
Two Cavanagh frees got Tyrone back on track but a late long-range effort from White left Louth trailing by 0-9 to 0-7 at the interval.
Mickey Harte’s half-time team-talk had the desired effect as McKenna goaled within 20 seconds of the restart, and they added a second on 40 minutes when O’Neill palmed to the net.
Tyrone goalkeeper Niall Morgan kicked three successive points from placed balls to extend Tyrone’s lead to 13 points before John O’Brien was black-carded for the visitors.
Burns grabbed Louth’s first point of the second half on 50 minutes but Tyrone continued to dominate, with debutant Shea McGuigan hitting the crossbar with a close-range shot.
McCurry, McKenna, McAliskey (2) and Morgan registered further points as Tyrone kept the scoreboard ticking over, with Colm Judge and Grimes grabbing a couple of late consolation scores for Louth.
