Immelman wants consistency

Trevor Immelman heads into this week's USPGA Championship hoping for the sort of consistency which delivered him the Masters title earlier in the season.

The South African donned the green jacket at Augusta after producing four rounds of golf not in keeping with the sort of form he has largely produced during 2008.

Immelman's malaise was highlighted at last weekend's WGC Bridgestone Invitational, where rounds of 75 and 74 bookended a 68 and a 64 - the week's lowest.

The 28-year-old, who finished tied for 36th place in Ohio, has only two top-10 finishes to his name other than his Masters success this year and has also missed the cut seven times in 26 starts.

"My game is kind of coming and going right now," Immelman said. "I've been working on trying to get it a bit more consistent, but last week was kind of like a typical week for me at this point, two really good rounds.

"I thought I had something going and then kind of a so-so round on Sunday.

"So I need to try and find a bit more consistency I think for me to really feel like I can compete when the gun goes off."

Asked if he had found it hard to string four solid rounds together following his Masters win, Immelman replied by saying he had found it difficult before his major breakthrough.

"It was hard for me to get it going to start, and then I won the Masters playing some great golf all week long," he continued.

"After that, I lost my way a little bit. Then I started feeling it coming together again before the US Open but never really translated into any good play there. I made the cut, but finished way down the field there.

"Then I went back and started working on a few more things. I felt pretty good about my game going into The Open Championship but kind of lost a little bit of rhythm in those conditions out there.

"I ended up finishing 19th, so it was a decent week, but obviously not exactly what I'm looking for.

"I would love to get to a point where the feelings don't come and go so much.

"So it's something I've been working on just trying day to day to have some more consistency. I guess that's what everybody's working on. So, we'll see how it goes.

"Hopefully it comes together come Thursday."
