Romero: seven birdies
Thunderstorms wrecked day three of the USPGA at Oakland Hills with the leading eight players unable even to start their third rounds.
Just 25 of the 73-man field had completed their third rounds when the first storm arrived at 2.15pm local time in Detroit.
Although there were breaks in the storms, no further play was possible and the PGA abandoned play for the day just before 6.30pm.
The players are scheduled to resume their rounds at 7.15 am on Sunday (12.15pm BST), while the PGA expects the fourth round to get under way at 12.30pm (5.30pm BST). The forecast for Sunday is good.
Halfway leader JB Holmes and seven others - Charlie Wi, Justin Rose, Ben Curtis, David Toms and Henrik Stenson - are still to tee it up.
Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell, Argentinian Andres Romero and Colombian Camilo Villegas had all made charges towards the top of the leaderboard at Oakland Hills before the rain brought a halt to proceedings.
Romero started the third round at seven under par - eight shots back on overnight leader Holmes - while both Villegas and McDowell teed off at six over.
Easier
With conditions considerably easier than on the first two days, when just Holmes broke par for 36 holes, the galleries finally got to see some birdies.
Romero rattled in seven, with just two bogeys on his way to a five-under, course-record-equalling 65 to move to two over for the tournament.
Villegas was four under for his round, one over for the tournament after 14 holes.
McDowell, a two-time European Tour winner this year, had begun with birdies at the par-five second and the par-four sixth - which tournament officials shortened from 387 yards following the second round, measuring 285 yards to the front of the green and 318 yards to the hole.
McDowell was at two over for the week, having played 15 holes - four under for the day in a round that included an eagle three at the 12th.
But English Ryder Cup hopefuls Ian Poulter and Paul Casey failed to make progress. Casey was two over for the day through 16, eight over for the tournament.
Rollercoaster
Poulter had a double bogey six at the first but had three birdies and a further bogey in a rollercoaster front nine and is still on five over.
It was a similar story for two-time Open champion Padraig Harrington, who is also level par for eight holes and alongside Poulter on five over, mixing two birdies with two bogeys.
Former champion Phil Mickelson had an eventful six holes but stayed on three over. He dropped a shot at the first after finding the fairway then duffing a wedge left of the green, but bounced back with a birdie at the par five second. He then missed a three-foot birdie putt on the fifth and immediately found the green with his drive at the par-four sixth. He will have a 12-foot eagle putt when he resumes early on Sunday.
Mickelson's playing partner, fellow left-hander Steve Flesch did manage to make a move, picking up two shots in five holes and getting to one-over when the hooter sounded.
