Tiger Woods starting to hit balls on range, making 'continual progress'

Tiger Woods is making 'continual progress' in his recovery from back surgery and has reportedly started hitting full shots in practice.

Former world No 1 Woods has been out since the end of March and has not played since the WGC-Cadillac Championship, missing the Masters at Augusta and last week's US Open at Pinehurst.

Back in May, Woods said he was only able to chip and putt, but reports on the Golf Channel's Morning Drive on Tuesday hinted that things had stepped up, with Woods even hitting drivers on the range at Medalist in Florida.

His agent Mark Steinberg was less forthcoming about the specifics of his recovery, but said: "Tiger is making continual progress.

"He feels better each day and (is able to) extend his swing as he moves forward."

The news increases the possibility that Woods could be back in action in time for the Open Championship from July 17-20 at Hoylake, where he won the last of his three Open titles in 2006.
