The two-time Asian tour winner is preparing for the Mission Hills Dongguan event in China among a strong field which includes fellow Ryder Cup heroes Luke Donald, Lee Westwood and Graeme McDowell and Open champion Ernie Els.
A heavyweight line-up is a further indication of the growing presence of golf in Asia and HSBC have commissioned a report, Golf's 2020 Vision, into the development of the sport in the region over the next eight years.
Poulter is looking forward to the Champions tournament, having previously sampled the increased interest in golf in Asia, but he is also focused on winning and closing the gap on Rory McIlroy at the top of the Race to Dubai standings.
The world No.26 said: "The HSBC Champions is a great tournament and one that I have enjoyed coming to for many years.
"They always gather a world-class field and really make sure the players are looked after well.
"I have enjoyed a great record in Asia over the last few years and hope to continue that trend with the momentum I am bringing into this year's event."
