Ben Crane will have a four-shot lead going into the final 36 holes of the weather-hit St Jude Classic in Memphis.
The American had raced clear with a seven-under 63 on Friday, which at the time was enough to give him a six stroke advantage over the field.
Second round leaderboard
(US unless stated)
-12 B Crane
-8 R Goosen (Rsa)
-8 C Villegas (Col)
-7 P Malnati
-7 T Merritt
-6 C Pettersson (Swe)
-6 B Harman
However, that clubhouse lead of 12-under was cut by two when the second round was completed on Saturday with double US Open champion Retief Goosen and Colombia's Camilo Villegas both posting eight-under.
Goosen, who didn't even get the chance to get his second round under way on Friday, returned to TPC Southwind on Saturday and carded a second straight 66 which featured seven birdies and three bogeys.
Villegas jumped to tied second with a bogey-free 64 which included a pair of closing birdies.
American pair Peter Malnati (68) and Troy Merritt (66) are tied fourth on seven-under while Sweden's Carl Pettersson is the leading European on six-under after finishing off his second round on Saturday.
Phil Mickelson continued his prep for next week's US Open with a 68 that put him in tied eighth on five-under. The left-hander was another who didn't begin his second round on Friday and started out on Saturday by going bogey-birdie-bogey-birdie. It was steady stuff after that with no more bogeys and birdies at 14 and 15.
But Lee Westwood's hopes of giving himself a boost ahead of the year's second major at Pinehurst No 2 went up in smoke as he carded a back nine 43 to post a six-over 76 and miss the cut by six shots.
