Rickie Fowler was the talk of Hawaii on day one at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, wearing an outfit he labelled 'very Maui'!

Rickie Fowler is well-known for his bold and colourful attire on the golf course, but even he admitted he was "pushing the boundaries' with his latest look.

Fowler arrival on the first tee at the Sentry Tournament of Champions alerted the fashion police as he donned a Hawaiian-style shirt - untucked - in keeping with local tradition.

But the world No 7 did not let his flamboyant look distract him from his game as he followed birdies at 14 and 15 with a closing eagle to end the opening day on four under, just two shots adrift of leader Marc Leishman.

He described his shirt as "very Maui" and responded to light-hearted criticism from the likes of Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas by claiming they could not pull it off as he could!

Fowler is renowned for wearing predominantly orange outfits on a Sunday as a tribute to his alma mater, Oklahoma State University, and he has also set a number of other trends.

Most notably, he caused a stir in early 2016 when he wore trousers similar in style to jodhpurs together with "high-top" shoes that looked more suited to the basketball court than the golf course.
