Europe's squad of Ryder Cup hopefuls playing in the EurAsia Cup

The second EurAsia Cup takes place this week, as Jeev Milkha Singh's home side takes on a European squad containing a number of Ryder Cup hopefuls.

The tournament provides an opportunity for many of the players to gain team golf experience and also put themselves forward for a potential place in Darren Clarke's squad for Hazeltine at the end of September.

Only four of Clarke's side heading to Malaysia have any Ryder Cup experience and only the two captain's picks have played in the biannual event more than once. Here's a look at the 12 players in action for Europe this week…

Shane Lowry - The Irishman is keen to make a mark this week, with the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational champion wanting to "kick on and make the Ryder Cup team".

Compatriot Paul McGinley told Sky Sports after that win in August that the Ryder Cup was "on the horizon" for Lowry, although the world No 21 will need to make a strong start to 2016.

Andy Sullivan - Sullivan surged up to a career high of world No 34 after posting three victories and narrowly missing out on a big-money win at the season-ending DP World Tour Championship.

After the final-round tussle with Rory McIlroy, the world No 3 stated Sullivan would be a 'huge asset' to the European side this autumn, with the 29-year-old currently fourth in the Ryder Cup points list.

Danny Willett - Victories in the Nedbank Golf Challenge and the Omega European Masters saw him push McIlroy all the way in the Race to Dubai, ending the season as runner-up.

Although he currently lies outside the top-four in the European Points List, Willett is widely expected be a part of Clarke's squad later this year.

Bernd Wiesberger - The Austrian has team experience from playing in the World Cup and the now-defunct Royal Trophy, but the Open de France champion is one of nine players in this week's squad still looking for a maiden Ryder Cup call-up.

If Wiesberger can replicate the form that saw him post four consecutive top-six finishes in as many weeks this time last year, he'll certainly be considered.

Victor Dubuisson - The Turkish Airlines Open champion is the only European player not to be making his EurAsia Cup debut this week, having won one of his three matches in the inaugural 10-10 draw in 2014.

Dubuisson is also one of just four players in Clarke's side boasting Ryder Cup experience, having featured in the 16.5-11.5 win at Gleneagles in 2014.

Matt Fitzpatrick - With more top-10s than any other player during 2015, the Sheffield star's breakthrough rookie season has seen him shoot up the world rankings.

A maiden professional victory at the British Masters has been Fitzpatrick's highlight to date, with Ian Poulter backing him to for a Ryder Cup debut this year.

Ross Fisher - The Englishman's solitary Ryder Cup appearance came in 2010, when he won two matches paired with Padraig Harrington as Europe reclaimed the trophy.

A slump in form did see the 35-year-old fall out of the world's top 100, but a tied-third finish at the HSBC Champions late last season showed he is still capable of performing in high-profile events.

Chris Wood - Five top-10s from his final eight starts in 2015 has put Wood within touching distance of the four currently in the automatic qualification places.

Wood has already impressed with captain Clarke nearby following strong displays in Turkey and at the Nedbank Challenge, with the Bristolian now having chance to catch the skipper's eye.

Soren Kjeldsen - The Dane ended a six year winless run with a surprise victory at last year's Irish Open and is inside the world's top 50 for the first time since 2009 after a string of impressive displays.

The European Tour veteran has been in consideration for previous Ryder Cup sides, but is still yet to represent Europe in the event.

Kristoffer Broberg - The Swede was a surprise winner at November's BMW Masters, with victory giving him a big cluster of early points in the race for Ryder Cup qualification.

Broberg had already posted five top-10s prior to that maiden win, with this week being the 29-year-old's first taste of team golf on the European Tour.

Lee Westwood - A tied-runner finish at the year-ending Thailand Golf Championship was just enough for the 42-year-old to finish 2015 inside the world's top 50.

Clarke's long-time close friend is one of two experienced wildcard picks, as he looks to impress enough to be considered for a 10th consecutive Ryder Cup appearance this autumn.

Ian Poulter - The Englishman is without a win since the 2012 HSBC Champions, but has tended to thrive under the pressure and responsibility of team events.

Poulter was a captain's pick for Europe's previous two victories and may well need a wildcard selection to feature again at Hazeltine this year.
