A press conference has been scheduled for January 18, 2011 in Abu Dhabi to announce who will be Europe's next Ryder Cup captain, with Jose Maria Olazabal expected to be given the role.
Spaniard Olazabal had been the leading contender for the event at Celtic Manor this year, only to hesitate over throwing his hat into the ring.
Instead the European Tour's tournament committee picked Colin Montgomerie, who led the side to a thrilling victory over the United States.
However the Scot stated straight after regaining the trophy in Wales that he would not be standing for another term in the position.
Olazabal has been backed to do the job at Medinah in Chicago by Montgomerie, as well as several high-profile European players.
The two-time Masters champion, now 44, has plenty of Ryder Cup experience having played in the competition seven times. He was also Nick Faldo's assistant in Louisville when the Cup was last fought for on American soil.
The only stumbling block over his selection as captain could be his health; Olazabal has been battling rheumatic pains for well over a decade and played only one tournament in the first nine months of 2010.
