The in-form American raced into a four-hole lead, nailing two eagle putts at the fifth and seventh holes, and Hanson's back-nine rally came up just short as Dufner clinched a two-up win at the last.
Dufner won the third with a par and then drilled a superb second to the fifth to set up an eagle, and he repeated the feat two holes later after another delightful long-iron.
He increased his lead to four when he birdied the eighth, but Hanson pulled one back with a birdie at 10 and Dufner's advantage whittled down to one when he bogeyed the next two.
The American hit back with another two at the 13th, and Hanson's birdie at the next was chalked off when Dufner two-putted for a winning three at the 15th.
The Swede forced them to go to the last when he won the 17th with a battling three, but he pulled his approach into sand at 18 and conceded defeat after missing an eight-footer for par.
