Lexi Thompson holes out from the fairway for a thrilling eagle in her Solheim Cup singles battle against Anna Nordqvist in Iowa.

Lexi Thompson needed to produce something special to get back into her singles match at the Solheim Cup, and holing out from the fairway for eagle was an ideal way to start.

Thompson looked to be heading for a heavy defeat in the top match against an inspired Anna Nordqvist, who began her quest to preserve her 100% winning record this week by taking the opening four holes.

The world No 2. stopped the rot at the fifth only for Nordqvist to restore her four-hole advantage at the turn, but Thompson won the 10th and then delighted the home crowd with her spectacular shot at the next.

With Nordqvist already on the green and facing a decent birdie chance, the American went one better as she drilled her iron straight at the flag, and her ball landed softly before disappearing into the hole to prompt wild celebrations up at the green.
