Every member of the European team played their part in an historic win

The Ryder Cup didn't disappoint but Ewen Murray thinks it should take place earlier in the year.

Well i know it is abit late but all the sky sports presenters should give yourselfs a pat on the back, for yet again giveing us superb coverage of this event. As a keen golfer both watcing and playing, all skys golf coverage is the best and as for the Harrington thing, well i thought the same as you that maybe a Rose or a Casey should have been there. We are all entitelled to have a say on these things. So keep up the good work Ewan and co.

A simply brilliant sporting event. Gladly we will never need to have the in depth inquisition as to whether Monty''''s picks were right or wrong. If there had been any other permutation or combination of players then it would almost certainly have altered things for the worse. If we''''d got less points then the Americans would have won and if we''''d have got more points then we wouldn''''t have seen such a nail biting finish which made it so entertaining (easy to say this in retrospect with the knowledge that we won). What''''s more, with the winning margin being half a point it ensured that every man''''s contribution, including Francesco''''s 3 footer on the 18th on Sunday, was absolutely vital. In terms of Montgomerie I''''ve never been a huge fan of his but the way he conducted himself was very impressive, he really did set a template for future captains. Like many others I enjoyed seeing all 24 players out on the course at once in the changed format although it''''s hard to tell how much our dominance of this session skewed my opinion here. All in all a fantastic 4 days. Looking to the end of the season it''''s a real shame to see Westwood''''s ankle injury rear its head again. It''''ll be great to see him topple Woods from his lofty perch in a couple of weeks but if he doesn''''t make it back for the HSBC and Race 2 Dubai then Kaymer will surely be waiting in the wings to try and make it a brief occupancy of the top spot. Hopefully Lee will be back asap before Martin wraps the season up, I would enjoy seeing them going head to head at the Dubai World Championship battling our for World no 1 and Race 2 Dubai.

A great result for Europe, superb golf, nail biting tension; what more could we ask for? For those knocking it (of which there aren''t many), get a life. I like (& always have) Monty and am delighted he got his Ryder Cup Captain victory; but I don''t think he quite got it right. Harrington didn''t justify his pick, plus he sent Paddy, McIlroy & Kaymer out in the wrong positions. But he got away with it. As for Tiger, I don''t think he did play well except in the singles. Of the 3 points he got, 2 were down to Steve Stricker. On the day stricker struggled, he & Woods got hammered. Still think the World No 1 has along way to come back but I hope he does. But enough of that, roll on 2 years. This is a unique sporting contest, the Yanks will be favourites over there but it will be another close, gentlemanly fought contest. But how anyone cant enjoy it is beyond me.

Colin Montgomerie wants Jose Maria Olazabal to succeed him as European Ryder Cup captain.

how can people still be saying that monty should have picked rose and casey? just because they are english doesnt give them a right to play over on form or experienced european golfers! monty picked the right people for the job and it was proved when they won! get over it
