JB Holmes

USA

Player details
Name JB Holmes
DOB April 26, 1982
Nationality American
Birthplace Campbellsville, Kentucky
Height 5ft 11
Weight 190lb
JB Holmes finished some way down the US points list in 18th spot, but local knowledge and an aggressive game swung him a wildcard pick from Azinger. The 26-year-old is perhaps best known for his length off the tee and is ranked only second to Bubba Watson in driving distance on the PGA Tour. A Kentucky native, he knows Valhalla like the back of his hand - a fact not lost on Azinger who also feels his aggressive attitude is ideally suited to match play competition. Holmes only turned professional in 2006, but promptly won on only his fifth start as he claimed the FBR Open en route to becoming the fastest golfer to reach $1,000,000 in career earnings on the PGA Tour. He went on to win the tournament for a second time in three years in 2008 as he broke into the world's top 50. Has some experience of team match play having been part of America's victorious Walker Cup team in 2005, but his inclusion by Azinger can be seen as a gamble. Exciting undoubtedly, but unpredictable in equal measure, it will be interesting to see how the rookie performs in such a pressure-cooker atmosphere in front of his home fans.
