Rose is another European to be making his Ryder Cup debut at Valhalla, but endured a rather nervy wait before finally clinching his place. The Englishman looked on course to be one of the first names on the European team-sheet after a stellar 2007 campaign that saw him win the European Order of Merit courtesy of top-12 finishes in every major and a dramatic triumph at the season-ending Volvo Masters. However, the 28-year-old struggled to maintain that kind of form in 2008 and only secured his place on Nick Faldo's side after finishing tied for fifth at the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles - the final qualifying event. Despite being a Ryder Cup rookie, Rose has plenty of team match play experience having featured for Great Britain and Ireland in both the Walker Cup (1997) and the Seve Trophy (2003 & 2007). His record in the latter is especially impressive having helped GB & Ireland to victory on both occasions, taking six and a half points from his ten matches in the process. Rose seems likely to be paired with close friend Ian Poulter or Paul Casey, both of whom he has played with in Seve Trophy and World Cup action.
