Paul Casey

England

Player details
Name Paul Casey
DOB July 21, 1977
Nationality English
Birthplace Cheltenham, England
Height 5ft10
Weight 176lbs
Casey had to rely on a wildcard to secure his place in Faldo's team, but - despite being further back in the world rankings - his inclusion caused a good deal less conjecture and controversy than that of Ian Poulter. The Englishman will play in his third Ryder Cup at Valhalla and will be looking to be part of a third success having featured on the European sides that emerged victorious in resounding style in both 2004 and 2006. At Oak Hill he played twice, partnering David Howell to a narrow win in fourball action before succumbing to Tiger Woods in the singles, while he was one of the stars at the K Club last time out as he remained unbeaten in his four outings and memorably landed a hole-in-one in the Saturday foursomes. Casey is also a veteran of four Seve Trophy appearances, winning ten of his 17 matches in the tournament, and played a leading role for Great Britain and Ireland as they clinched the 1999 Walker Cup - the same year he won the English Amateur Championship. To underline his impressive match play pedigree, Casey walked away with a cool million pound purse when he convincingly won the World Match Play at Wentworth two years ago. Endured a slow start to the 2008 campaign although he threatened to produce something special at the Masters in April before fading to finish 11th. He turned Faldo's head with some consistent form late in the season including a seventh place finish at the Open Championship and 15th at the USPGA. A big-hitter with a classical swing, Casey is always capable of the spectacular and, if his putter runs hot, could produce another big performance.
