I for one will be supporting Colin in 2010. Unless you have been obducted by aliens over the last decade Colin has been inspirational to everyone, players and captains during the Ryder cups. You need big personalities on the big stage events and the Ryder cup is the biggest. Everyone else will ride the wave that Colin will create and the Americans will be somewhere at the bottom. Come on Europe lets all get behind the captain and the team..

In response to Mr George McGarrigle's comments on Faldo bottling it - I don't think he bottled it, he was just incapable as a captain/leader. On your comments about picking the right wildcard's - no-one can argue with Faldo's wildcards, especially Poulter who was the best player on view. Paul Casey wasn't on form but he was no worse than the other big names who flattered to deceive when the pressure was on.

Lets face it, the team captain is there to unite a team but in Montgomerie we have a destuctive force who will fail to bring the team together. A big mistake.

Monty's attitude is not up to what a Ryder Cup captains should be, however he is Mr Ryder Cup and if he produces a similar record in captaincy as he did as a player we will win. He has a good relationship seemingly with the players and although he is not my favoured player to say the least, I think he will bring the Ryder Cup home.

Well done Colin! What an excellent choice of captain, the committee clearly have the right man in place and I really hope you prove all the doubters wrong and clearly select the right men when you come to pick your wild cards - not like Faldo who in my eyes, and many others, bottled it. Bring it on Celtic Manor 2010, good luck big man!

Let's all get a dose of reality here. The players don't have any more respect for the Scottish Mardy than they had for Faldo or any captain before because they simply have no idea how he will be as a captain. What we do know is that they will say anything to get into the team even if it means licking his boots. He systematically undermined Faldo's captaincy and I sincerely hope someone has the guts to be honest about Montgomerie but I doubt it.

I think the Ryder cup committee has got it a 100% right when picking Monty for the captains job,I'm sure he will do his best ,after all this is one event where Monty shine's brightest of all, Not wanting to wish my life away, but I now can't wait till wales 2010 !

I don't think Montgomerie should be Ryder Cup captain with his temprament and his tantrums that we have all had to tolerate over the years, I do not think he deserves it.

Excellent choice by the panel. Europe's greatest-ever Ryder Cup player and someone who will bring his own style to the captaincy.

I may not in favour of Monty being captain in 2010 but that does not mean I won't be supporting the European Team when they play against the USA. Squabbling cost Europe the 2008 Ryder Cup. Don't let it happen again. The captain has been selected and so let us start giving our full support to the captain.

Can't believe the doubters regarding Monty's selection, you only have to listen to the players to realise how much they respect him. I am sure he will be a great captain, a great leader and a huge inspiration to the younger players.

I'm disappointed that he will be Captain. Monty can and should be playing. He was not selected in 2008 because Faldo was afraid of losing his lead in the individual points standings. We all watched our team lose last time because it had no heart, no spark. I Smith is an idiot.

Despite my personal reservations about Colin, I do think he will be a good captain to the players, but not a leader and not an inspirational captain. I think he has more cringe factor than motivational ones. My own reaction. Apathy. Not sure if I'll be taking much interest in the build up to the event as simply can't stand Colin's self effacing smug mannerisms. Having said all of that.... I think the Team will win.

Monty deserves the opportunity, his playing record in the Ryder Cup speaks volumes. Hopefully he will be an improvement on Nick Faldo and we can bring the cup back home where it belongs

I think it's a bit premature. I have no doubt he will make a good captain but it was too early. I also find Montys attitude to be a bit dissapointing- I would have thought he would have preferred to have one last go at the Americans and look to be selected as a player. He seems to have taken the easy way out and bought the curtain down on a his career. I can't see Monty now challenging for European events let alone the WGC or Majors, as taking the captaincy seems to be an admission he feels he can no longer compete. I think he's being rather optimistic if he feels he can play himself in the team for 2012.
