After two PGA Tour victories in 2002 and five more from October 2005 to January 2008, Choi had become regarded as a prolific winner in the US. The next step was to become the first male Asian-born major winner but he was beaten to the punch by fellow Korean YE Yang who famously took down Tiger Woods in the 2009 PGA Championship at Hazeltine. After swing changes and trying out a bizarre front-on putting stroke at last year's Open, Choi is back to his best again and bagged the biggest win of his career at Sawgrass last month when edging out David Toms in a play-off to win The Players Championship. That massive pay-day has elevated him to second place on the current PGA Tour Money List with just over $3m but it's majors not money he needs now to really confirm his place in history. Choi has contended well at Augusta in recent times but his US Open record is poor with just one top 20 (a tied 15th) in 10 appearances. One big plus though is that he won the AT&T National at Congressional in 2007 so will have good memories about returning to the course.
