The South African arrives at Congressional as the Masters champion after a sensational performance at Augusta. Schwartzel claimed the coveted Green Jacket by making birdies at the final four holes to claim a two-shot victory after the chaotic final round leaderboard looked almost certain to throw up a play-off. The 26-year-old, who the previous year had stood by the final green at St Andrews to applaud his countryman Louis Oosthuizen to Open glory, had shown he had the winning habit by claiming six previous victories on the European Tour. That included one at the start of 2011 in his native South Africa where the brilliant short game skills he employed at Augusta were again in evidence. As for his US Open record, it's pretty decent too. He's played in this event four times, made the cut in three of them and produced a best of tied 16th at Pebble Beach last year. He's been fairly quiet since his Masters win but there's no reason why he can't rise to the occasion again and challenge for another major title.
